Not surprising with how good the defense is. Us fans debate amongst ourselves how much of that is Butler since it seemed as if they were taking responsibilities away from him but thats not what PFF does, Butler is the DC so he is going to get the accolades.

I have no idea what to make of Butler. Is he even calling the defense? Is it Tomlin?

The defense was crushing it prior to the injuries. Butler is a part of that, so props to him.

Agree and disagree on Brandon Staley.

Watch this video below for more info on why this is one of the few lists PFF got right. Also watch to see on some of the things I disagree with PFF too.

I think he is very good at teaching OLB's and at applying what DL taught him and left in the playbook. Overall on defense though I think its be proven that he is out of his depth on how to mold everything together.

Staley was the Rams DC for one year, but he's ranked #1 by PFF .

I actually agree with PFF's statement on this one actually. In a year where NFL Offenses were scoring like never before, the Rams held Opponents to only 18.5 PPG and allowed the lowest amount of Passing Yards Per Game at 190.7 per footballdb.com. In addition, the LA Rams were the only team in the NFL to have fewer than 20 passing touchdowns allowed all season at 17 per nfl.com.

Given how crazy Offensive Production overall was in 2020, I would have to actually agree with PFF on their rankings of Brandon Staley for just the 2020 Season.... keyword being just. If we are talking about for a stretch period of time.... I would have to say that there are other candidates that should be considered. That said, like Alex Rollins pointed out in the above video, while the likes of Joey Bosa and Derwin James are rock solid players... or more specifically Bosa as James has been injured in the past two seasons, they are not on the same level that the likes of Aaron Donald and Jalen Ramsey are; a more challenging task for Staley and doubly so should James go down again.

PFF ranked their top 7 head coaches the other day, Tomlin wasn't listed. I guess they assume KB is calling the D.

Did they discuss the calling of LBs covering the only WR on the field repeatedly?

I never knew how they rated coaches. Don't know how they tease this apart from the players' performance. When Deebo freelanced and turned around SB XLIII, did he or Lebeau get credit?

When the Steelers repeatedly cover Jarvis Landry with Robert Spillane, does the "expected result" absolve the coaches?

Saleh didn't make their top 6 despite having a top 5 DVOA defense missing several key starters.

I would think Mike Pettaway Tomlin would have been ranked pretty damn high as a defensive back coach when he was with the TBB. Overall Tampa always had one of the better D's in the NFL while Mikey boy was there.

I know he wasn't the D play caller but just showing a little love for a man I want gone.

Agree on Butler and how he teaches linebackers, but still don't understand why we have our outside linebackers in pass defense so often. I will never understand why we don't make adjustments when all game long the other team will have a receiver on our linebackers which is a total mismatch. Remember when reciever from San Diego caught a zillion passes on our linebackers all game long. Just some defensive things I'll never understand.

Landry did the same thing in the playoff game. They don't adjust because they believe in the scheme. They simply blame the players.

Isn't amazing how much smarter Butler became as a coach in 2019 when Devin Bush replaced Jonathan Bostic and Minkah Fitzpatrick replaced Kam Kelly.

This team is still stubbornly stuck in the 90's with a defensive scheme that has been figured out many times over. Bringing in a defensive guru would do this team a world of good but that will never happen because they're married to Dom Capers, Dick Lebeau philosophies at their core.

Needed that extra 1st round pick to get results. 8 or so wasn't enough?

Once Porter left Butler was demoted to LB coach, with Tomlin taking over as DC.

Tomlin is our DC; I thought Butler would have tried to cash in on our Defenses success and moved on to a higher paying job the last 2 years.

Butler was offered a position in Miami years ago. Doesn't seem like he's interested in leaving the area. That and I think teams are seeing about him what we see and not listening to sites like PFF.
There's a reason other teams aren't interested in Tomlin disciples.
