Unfortunately, raw talent isn't what his problem is

I watched the vid, then watched this:

Now, watching them together was interesting, having not watched much of Haskins before. I'd say that while there are some bad throws on the Redksins video, many of those picks are on receivers; there's one where the receiver isn't looking for the ball; some taht look like bad routes etc. When you're seeing his college skills translate into NFL plays, you can see how the cast around him really didn't help.

Even though the video is obviously mocking his getting sacked, he moves fairly well in the pocket. I'm intrigued by how he does in camp with a better receiving corps around him.

It says in the draft profile that he will need time to learn. He wasn’t given that opportunity and it shows. If we’re lucky he will learn and develop into the quality starter he was projected to be. If not oh well he cost us nothing.

Didn't see much of him in college but maybe Ben can school him on NFL play.

Our track record in grooming and developing QB's is not great.....

Ben as a mentor is the last thing he needs.

Yeah watching that clip @Thigpen82 linked to you can tell he is really raw. Looked like he had happy feet, not comfortable in the pocket, had trouble going through progressions, didn't have any touch on his throws where finesse was needed. Lot of times just focused on the primary receiver and if they were too wide open got over excited and threw the ball flat.

We sure didn't see that accuracy when he was with Washington, defenses in the NFL are a lot better than he saw in college, his receivers won't be wide open like they were in college.

Seriously...When have we ever "developed" a QB? Bradshaw and Ben were first rounders!...Who else have we really "developed"?

I'm hoping for the best here but I'm not going to be buying his jersey anytime soon.

As others have said Haskins is a free lottery ticket, high end arm talent but very raw and very immature.

He will be a backup this year and if they like what they see they can tender him and keep him around at a very reasonable rate for a further two years.

By all accounts he has been impressive in OTA’s but his problem was always between the ears rather than his arm. Good luck to him

Arm strength was never the issue. It's his head that's the issue.

Kordell Stewart - His stubborn mentality about not being slash anymore ruined his career. He did have natural talent at QB to a fault that ruined his career about being slash in his role on the team. He had serious natural talent but a lot of credit has to go to the coaches for developing him as a QB.

Tommy Maddox - Sure he was a #1 pick by Denver but his career fizzled out and he came to us after selling insurance for a living. Steelers turned him into a real QB.

Bubby Brister - 3rd round draft pick who wasn't really barn burner for the Steelers but wasn't really a bust either.

NOD - Another 3rd round pick. The guy was about as dependable as a fresh alkaline battery until he wasn't in the biggest game on the biggest stage.

Not every QB we get is going to win Superbowls but we did have a few successful ones that are easily overlooked. There were far more busts though.

Boy I think Ben just really dis-likes Mason.

Ben seemed to be more about helping Hodges when he was out for the season, then he did Rudolph.

Not that its his job to help. But, I just think he's not liked Mason since day 1.

Now the glowing remark on Haskins, and noting positive on Mason. I just think he doesn't like him much.

I think Ben and Aaron Rodgers have a lot in common about being a mentor to their young QBs.

They pretty much hate everything the backup QB stands for.

He also showed no interest in learning. Thats his big knock. 5 cent head that blew up to a billion dollar ego very quickly. I agree Washington wasn't a great situation for him or anyone at the time. But when that ego explodes and you cant back it up and your team sees constantly that your the last one in and the first one out its dangerous. It is very low risk though so maybe he realizes the NFL is work and especially at QB.

    Just a question.
Could it be he is not threatened by the others, but he feels he is by Rudolph??
