RBBC takes planning and is hard, running the wheels off a feature back is easier.

Gameplanning specific opponents is hard, doing what you do against nameless, gray faces is easy.

Coaching around the deficiencies of backups is hard, next man up is easy.

Scheming guys open is hard, beat your man and execute is easy.

I very much agree with the points you made. But as long as the guy running things keeps signing the checks and can't see this, yeah it sucks.

 

Looking forward to it. I was shocked last season with all the picks for a high win total but they proved right. I have a feeling this year the predictions will be all over the place.

It doesn't make him a bust either. Many look at Batch as the best backup we had on the roster. I actually do agree with that. Since Batch was drafted by the Lions and started for them before falling to a career backup role with the Steelers, would you call him a bust too? I think not!

 

Jacksonville drafted Trevor Lawrence AND Travis Etienne. Not only the same school, but their first names start with the same two letters. Lazy bums.

All the Tomlin lovers will respond with he isn’t responsible for “fill in the blank”. So far I think I have been told. Tomlin isn’t responsible for draft picks, deciding who to resign, play calling, challenges, timeouts, game plans, halftime adjustments, assistant coaches, etc etc. I am sure I am forgetting a few hundred other things he isn’t responsible for. In fact considering all the things he isn’t responsible for I am not sure how you can get fired for doing a bad job. Apparently he isn’t even responsible for cheerleading!

This thread made me re-examine what I thought I knew, and opened my mind.

The biggest revelation was that Cowher didn't win the SB with Cowher-drafted players!
(Kind of like the idea that Tomlin only won with other people's players.)

Ben was forced on him by Rooney, when Cowher wanted to draft someone else.
Willie Parker - undrafted.
Bettis - traded from Rams.
Jeff Hartings? He was drafted and played as a RG at Detroit.
Cedric Wilson (SF), Farrior (Jets), Kimo von Oelhoffen (Bengals).
The kickers? Reed (undrafted) and Gardocki (Bears)

Take away the non-Cowher players and don't replace them, and what do you have left?
9 players on defense.
An offense without a QB, RBs, or someone to snap the ball.
The team can't even do a kickoff to start the game.
And only 44 players on the team, leaving them short-handed.

With those facts in hand, Cowher was a bum!
