Last year we noticed the trend with DMV players. Basically Tomlin is watching his son or Maryland play and falls in love with a player and thinks he can make him a great pro. This is where I need to remind you we've won 0 Super Bowls with Tomlin drafted players. I think you can look at the draft history and pin 2016 is when Tomlin started to have a lot more say in the draft. That's when the influx of DMV players started to happen.

    The new trend?

Round 4: No. 128 – Dan Moore Jr., OT, Texas A&M.
Round 4: No. 140 – Buddy Johnson, ILB, Texas A&M.

Anthony McFarland Jr. (RB) Maryland 124
Antoine Brooks Jr. (S) Maryland 198

    Devin Bush (LB) Michigan 10
    Zach Gentry (TE) Michigan 141

James Washington (WR) Oklahoma State 60
Mason Rudolph (QB) Oklahoma State 76

    Cameron Sutton (CB) Tennessee 94
    Joshua Dobbs (QB) Tennessee 135

5 drafts in a row we've drafted 2 players from the same school. I remember the Rudolph story was they went to scout Washington and Tomlin really liked Rudolph. That's why I always say Rudolph was a Tomlin player and of course he's a bust. But to me this just screams pure laziness and not doing his due diligence. Much like his game planning. They go to scout one player and they like him and just because he can throw the ball to the player they like all the sudden Tomlin thinks he can turn water to wine. His track record has shown he's a horrible evaluator of talent. Much better when Colbert was running the show.

Yes, it happened a few times under Cowher. It's not unheard of but 5 drafts in a row is pretty alarming to me. Shows how lazy everything has got with this organization under Tomlin.

Steelers won a Super Bowl with Lamaar Woodley and Lawrence Timmons. Both were drafted by Tomlin in '07. I'm all in on the "Fire Tomlin" bandwagon... but facts are facts.

While this is great information and it is an odd trend, I would not classify Mason as a bust. Someone like Sam Darnold was hot on the trade block with many wanting him. Mason's stats are comparable and slightly better than Darnold's stats. Darnold isn't considered to be a bust with never playing behind a future HOFer. It definitely isn't fair to call Mason a bust after sitting behind a HOFer and getting far less playing time.

Oh wow, 2 players on a 53 man roster in 14 years. Lets give him a lifetime extension. Highly doubt he had any say in those picks his 1st year as well. I don't think he really started making calls in the draft until 2016.

From what we've seen, Rudolph isn't the answer.

Don’t forget big play Willie Gay.

Had Mendy not been hurt he could’ve turned it over as well.

Sweed made some plays too after Ward was hurt.

Your takes are not just lazy but also attention seeking.

One thing he's right about in this instance is that Tomlin does recruit the D.C. Metro/Virginia/Maryland area hard.

Tomlin didn't become the coach and immediately take over scouting/drafting. Colbert was on the best in the biz. You can see starting in 2016 is when Tomlin had more of an influence/bigger role.

    They're bad at football too.

Your right, Tomlin / Colbert do not like drafting players they have never met, or had contact with. So no matter how much online hype a guy is getting if the Steelers have not had contact with that player good chances are they are not going to draft him.

I don't know why it would be a bad thing to move a player up on your draft board you have met in person and been impressed with?

And this years draft I thought was completely different with the focus on Seniors from major programs. More of a Win now type of players that will be able to produce this year.

I'm not sure I see the issue you are having. So what if two players from the same school are drafted?

If you are scouting one player from a school, you would no doubt see film on other players while studying. If you attend a pro day to scout a player, you undoubtedly see other players from the same school put in work

I would say this is the opposite of lazy. Tomlin is looking for more than one guy when he attends a workout. He isn't fixated on one talent. I like that.

So bad draft picks are on Tomlin.

Colbert gets the credit for the good ones.

    Gotcha.

That's what I've learned since joining the forum.

Everything bad (including weather) = Tomlin
    Everything good = Someone else

I said in many post that Texas A&M was loaded that's why I wasn't a fan of Mond. Just go back and look.
Now someone will say why were you a fan of M. Jones then.
What one accomplished in one year, wasn't even close 2 what the other couldn't accomplish in multiple years. In my opinion Mond held the team back.
Bringing this up because of the showed multiple picks from Texas A&M.
