Hopefully we get this Ben all next season. Arm strength and accuracy all good here.

Honestly I feel like Ben was still suffering either from injury or just age catching up to him. He started out with pretty decent arm strength but kinda tailed off near the end of the season.. I was calling him noodle arm the last few games

With age comes inconsistency. Ben was occasionally able to fire a pass into a small window, and looked good. Then the next might be weak or off-target. We'll have to hope for more moments of brilliance, but will have to expect some highly inconsistent play (more frequent bad Ben/good Ben fluctuation).

Well for the sake of argument doesn't accuracy have something to do with arm strength? Any QB can chuck the ball. I feel he was forcing the throws to make up for the lack of arm strength with the elbow repair. Add the knees and whatever else is hampering him and bingo. The tale of the tape was the wonderful dink and dunk.

He is beaten. If we see a bulk of 50 some throws a game its going to be the same scenario. Need a respectable running attack, and utilizing play action.

Ben's mechanics and throwing went downhill in the latter part of last season was after he injured he knee. He did not or was not able to step into his throws and throwing off his deeper passes. If you watched Ben through his years, he is much better and accurate when stepping into his throws.

Someone, maybe Blast?, posted something a few weeks ago thst showed that Bens downfield passing was amoung the worst in the league and had been so for several years. This predates the elbow surgery and the knee last yr. I’m sure arm strength is an element of this, Lower body strength, too.
To me this means he’s just getting old. The body is breaking down a bit. And if that’s the case, it’s not gonna get better. Ben may be the teams best option this yr, but you’re not getting the HoF version, you’re getting the Johnny-Unitas-SanDiego-Charger version.

    Looking back at 2020:

    Chase Claypool: 62 Receptions / 873 Receiving Yards / 9 Receiving TDs
    JuJu Smith-Schuster: 97 Receptions / 831 Receiving Yards / 9 Receiving TDs

Just think of the damage they could have done if Ben's arm would have had the strength to make it through the season.

I agree. I understand 10 years ago they fall back on Ben's arm for stretch as needed to carry the team. But not only has the mileage taken a toll and limited the amount he can do at high level, but whomever takes over is going to be up against a taller mountain without a solid running game.

Huh? Through the first five games last year he had a 70% completion percentage, 11/1 TD/INT, and a QB rating of 110.

Good catch. He spread the ball around. Just imagine if he was able to throw with accuracy further down the field.

    All very true.

But at the end of the season he couldn’t throw overhead. He couldn’t get the arm up there. As someone else said he looked like he was throwing the shot put. I’m not sure you can attribute that to a knee?

True, his mechanics were all messed up towards towards the end. Will be watching him closely at the start of the season to see if anything has changed.

Since I am not his doctor nor does Ben confide in me his ailments during the season, I don't know precisely what his real issues were and how it impacted him. What I do hope for is that whatever it is/was has been remedied to start next season, and if not, and we get into the offensive sh!tshow of the last years last half of the schedule, then somebody with a pair needs to pull him and put Mason in. I know many don't agree with this opinion but I believe Mason would have given us a better chance of winning more games late last year with or without the veterans resting. Of course, the ideal situation is that Ben does come back and performs like a mo fo on steroids and we compete for the div again. If not, what needs to be done, needs to be done.

Harsh! I was still somewhat of a Charger fan when this happened. Just one of the MANY stupid moves that franchise made that got me off their bandwagon for good!

I agree with you on Mason. I think Ben needs to be kept on a short leash. Pull him if we need to put a spark in the offense. It is done with other top tier QBs that have a future with their franchises.

If we don't get the Ben from the second half of the Colts game, it will be an ugly season.

A lot of those batted balls was because he wouldn't or couldn't move and side step the oncoming rushers. At times he would also throw more side arm or 3/4 arm instead of side stepping.
