Hmm. FA98 says JuJu is not good cause he can only play the inside(slot) well , and not the outside.
Then he turns around and says the inside CBs are better then the outside. Hmmm?:hmm:

    Fun Fact:

The team that has spent the most in free agency over the past 5 years: Jets
The team with the worst record over the past 5 years: Jets

I think you're misplacing some blame and projecting frustration into an overly negative assessment of the last 10 years and the next few going forward. The somber feeling of seeing Ben's last days, being cash strapped this year, and basically going into a season where we don't feel the Steelers are legitimate SB contenders is a somber departure from the last 15 years. But things have to be kept in perspective.

I agree the last 10 years have been frustrating. IMHO, the team did underperform overall. I don't think anyone can state they should have won a certain amount of Super Bowls because a lot of things have to go right to get a team there, but the combination of bad beats and some generally uninspired performances over that span left a holllow feeling. My personal opinion has been that Tomlin's style was not the right match for the team we had.

The issue now is not that Ben should have retired this year. The Steelers are being charged very little for his services this season. If he retires after if, they eat $10m in dead money in '22, but with ~$120m currently under a conservatively projected cap that's very unlikely to be any burden either. Performance wise I would have been fine seeing Mason get his chance this year, but have not seen anything that would lead me to believe he'd be any improvement over Ben.

The issue now is the aforementioned talent from the past 10 years leading to higher dollar contracts, some of which were renegotiated to keep the core intact, kicking money down the road when it converged with a pandemic that not only scratched a projected $8m increase over prior year, but dropped it back $16m. That's at least a $24m shortfall in player retention thanks to COVID.

Complaining that the Steelers "be just good enough to compete" is pretty short-sighted. They've been at that level for almost 30 years now, give or take the odd season, spanning back to the early 90s. Over that time they've won two Super Bowls, lost another. If you're expecting a SB victory rate comparable to the four wins in the late 70s in this day of free agency I think your hopes are a bit unrealistic..

I tried saying that a few times over the years. It never works. "It's not the size of the boat, but the motion of the ocean" only works if she's drunk, and then your boat gets put in dry dock until you can find another port to sail to.

Guess you feel bad for hall of famers too cause 2 of then in a video I showed said the slot is the harder cover than outside and they played the game at the highest level. Sharpe also brought up in the past how ramsey like I said struggles with shiftier quicker guys. He using stats when ramsey for a good chunk of games played one side. I can link to his matchups from last yr he didn't always shadow so his numbers are not 100% complete. But he is imo the best corner in the nfl I've said since his 2nd year. People said gilmore but I always said ramsey was better.

And read this article of several people tlaking about how important the slot is. Desmond king said alot of people tell him they'd rather play outside than slot.

Deion sanders went as far as to say as he COULDNT DO IT and said this "In that slot, man, you’ve got to be on it. You can’t guess. You’ve just got to play it honest, because you’re involved in so many different [things]. . . . Especially when it’s all-out blitz, that ball is coming out of there quick and it’s coming to your guy oftentimes. It’s tough.”

We can tell who haven't played nor don't know ball on this forum.

Read all the quotes and people from this article who played and even the Great deion sanders admitting he couldn't do it in the slot.. Like I said we see who does and doesn't know ball. You the same one who say what you say about juju when a hall of fsmer like sharpe said anyone who knows ball knows juju was nothing more than a glorified 2.

It’s really fascinating how your mind works, you often take debates in unrelated directions. Show me where I ever said the slot wasn’t important?

Also you have a very hard time grasping the whole concept of opinions. From the article you just posted (did you even read the whole thing) you have varying opinions.

Yeah, and that last part, I keep making that point to you, outside corners are the higher paid position, because they are still covering the best receivers and another point I keep making to you, ITS A DIFFERENT SKILL SET! Which goes way back to what I first said that started this whole debate in which I said “not necessarily” in reply to you saying it’s a harder position.

So what that Dion said he couldn’t do it, Mike Hilton could never do what Dion did either. Why is this so hard for you to understand.

Lots of people have lots of opinions; lots of topics have more than one side. Hall of Fame players in the same sport will disagree with each other on certain topics at times. But if somebody disagrees with you and Shannon Sharpe or Dion they don't know ball? Come on.

Of course Dion would never have been caught dead in the slot - there's way too much contact in the middle of the field. And it could be that quicker, shiftier WRs give Ramsey trouble - they give just about every CB trouble because of their ability to cut and change direction on a dime. But that doesn't diminish bigger or more linear WRs that can blaze right by you, outmuscle you for the ball, etc. Different sides to the same topic.

But I think the original topic is whether Hilton could equal Sutton in various coverages. Sutton has covered both inside and out, and has gotten generally favorable reviews in doing so. Hilton, if you count his college days, has covered both as well while scouts generally noted his coverage abilities were limited. I'm sure the coaches practiced him on the outside to see how he did and their views aligned with the scouts, so they opted to extend the more versatile coverage CB.

I guess time will tell if they don't know ball either.

Dude, I try to get this through to him all the time. He thinks that when an ex player or current one backs up his point of view that it’s open and shut case. It’s exhausting :lolol:

The rest of your post was spot on, too.

We were one and done with the players we had despite the regular season record. No playoff win with a higher draft pick could be a win with a finish not really any different than 2020.

Deion is maybe the greatest athlete to ever play in the league and obviously the best cover corner ever So him saying he couldn't do it holds more weight than anybody. And all those wrs Davis named plays alot in the slot. Especially odell. And no one who ever played could do what deion did so saying Hilton couldn't be deion is not saying much. Ask Hilton if thinks he has zero chance and jsut can't comepltely play outside at all like deion said about the slot. How much you want to bet he doesn't say no I can't cover outside at all. And my initial claim was its harder to cover in the slot than outside. That's my primary point. Nothing about different skillets. DT and DE have different skills but you can still judge which is harder. 3-4 olb vs 4-3 DE have different skills sets but you can still say which position of the 2 is harder to play. The difficulty of the position does not correlate with the pay of the position which i see you keep referencing.

You generally see a consensus among hofers that speak especially on a X's and O's topic like this. Isn't liek you will see a 50/50 split of hall of famers on different sides. You may have a few who say something different but not the majority.

My argument was never about Sutton vs Hilton. My argument was strictly that anyone who knows ball knows the slot is harder to cover than the outside for several reasons. You don't have the sideline, the slot guys generally are off the ball therefore you can't press them off the line, they can go anywhere on the field, and they have so much open room working in their favor. That's something you will only see either people who play ball or really know ball to be able to articulate and say. Which is what you saw deion, sharpe, honey badger, etc.. articulate. His first argument was the outside is harder because of size as if strictly size dictates what makes a reciever harder to cover and because they pay them more as if pay is what correlates to the difficulty of playing a respective postion. Its even more mind boggling when for years the steelers had maybe one of the smallest recievers in the nfl who was maybe the hardest to anyone to cover. But if forgot people like to dismiss what that guy did and who he was because of non football related reasons.

I never once even mentioned Sutton nor Hilton.

Remember you said "every". I can argue the honey badger coverage wise is the best cb on the chiefs and he plays in the slot and all over the field. But generally thats because the best wrs don't primarily play in the slot and the slot corner needs to be able to tackle, blitz, and do many other things besides just cover. All you wanted deion or revis to do was take whoever the number 1 wr was out of the game.

First things first. You’re a goof. I’m not even sure where you come up with these weak ass arguments. Slot CB is the weakest CB on the field period. You can type whatever you want, but you’re still going to be looking like a fool.
