Ben's preference to be 7 yards deep.

That's the answer. In the past Ben had to throw 30 yard passes on 3rd and 1..so he takes the snap, drops back the the 25 or 30 and let's it rip, so simple I am surprised he and Randy have not drawn up the play.

What you meant to say is that there is no guarantee that Randy Fichtner will be on the staff in 2021. If I'm not mistaken his contract is up this year. He hasn't had to deal with the injury issues that the DC has had to deal with (at least with multiple key players being out for an extended amount of time). He has 4 games to prove he can make adjustments and formulate a game plan for an offense that's going no where. Derek Watt is guaranteed to be here next year. The year after that is anyone's guess. I would think management would want to see a OC who can use a $3 mil a year fullback and keep a 35 mil star QB under wraps who appears to be calling his own number way too much among other things.

Or management will see a FB who is overpaid, and isn't that good.

He may be both, but I still don't think they'll touch him til they know if JJ will resign with Houston. There was nothing I could think of prior to this season that DW did that warranted handing him a 3 million dollar contract.. Now you want to release him after a year after hardly using him taking a minimum $2 million cap hit???

We don't even use a full back ever. I'm not sure why they went after him other than for his last name.

The Steelers have two starting DEs in Heyward and Tuitt, they both have big contracts, so where is JJ is going to play on the DL? He's not coming to Pittsburgh, they don't have the salary cap space either.

I honestly don't know why they signed Derek Watt at this point. It appears they almost never had a desire to use him or simply don't know how. Whether that is symptomatic of a lack of trust in his ability, the fact that he's more effective with Ben under center where he doesn't want to play or the coaching staff isn't creative enough is certainly open to interpretation.

Saw interviews by both Ben and a coach saying it maybe time to get Watt involved in short yardage . Really? We’re in Dec and your just pondering that now? Ward is right, we don’t even use a full back so they brought him in for ST? He does look good on kick off coverage.

Right, paying $3 1/4 million for a position player that gets more snaps on ST's than at FB certainly isn't the Steelers way. I also don't see any of the Watt brothers having to be placated in any manner other than being paid what they are worth, so that scuttles the argument that he was brought in to keep TJ happy. I think most of this is another example of Ben just wanting to chuck the rock around.

Have zero problem with Ben “chucking” the ball around. Let me remind all that’s a first ballot HOF’er doing the “chucking” that’s won us some games over the years, including a SB. What I do have a problem with is the short One and Done run game at the goal line and Fourth Down One and Done fails in crucial situations that I would argue have plagued this team for years. Have we ever been good at running the ball first and goal? Was Watt brought in to help with that?

Heyward and Tuitt play interior line. JJ primarily plays outside DE altho it's usually on the same side TJ plays. He can switch to interior, but he usually plays outside.

I just heard JJ has one more year on his contract...not that it ends this year as I thought previously. That of course means the Steelers would have to trade for him (which that's not going to happen or shouldn't). It will be interesting to see if he resigns. His big contract days are done after this year but you keep mentioning money. He will have made enough money over the length of his career where money is less of an issue. It shouldn't be about money anymore for him, but where he thinks he has the best chance to win a ring and typically the Steelers have a better chance then the Texans. Like I said I highly doubt he would ask for anything ridiculous if he were to come play.

Tuitt and Heyward are DEs in a 3/4, JJ doesn't play NT

I'm talking about from the perspective that the Steelers very rarely rush just 3 guys...you're reaching...but continue on.
