Colbert has been absolutely kicking ass building this roster. Arguably the best GM in the league.

I never understood the dislike for him. The draft picks aren't just him, there is input from the coaches and scouts so it isn't just one person. I like the fact that he seems very good at knowing who to pay and who not to.

Colbert is one of the best in the biz. He has his bad drafts, and bad draft picks from time to time. But he has far more hits than he does misses IMO.

    Very underrated NFL GM

He came in 2000 was Director of Football Operations then GM.

Have to figure in 20 years, he's had one losing season below .500 (2003)

Even more amazing he came from Lions organization.

2 Super Bowls, 3 appearances, 6 AFC Championship games.

9 out 20 seasons thus far Steelers either won the AFC North or AFC Central

Besides the success of Bill Bellicheck and Ozzie Newsome, you put Kevin Colbert up there.

I wish @Blast Furnace could share the latest The Athletic Article about Kevin Colbert. In that article, it states that Kevin Colbert essentially took the "Steeler Way" and detonated it via 16 trades. I would be inclined to agree but there is something even bigger at play in regards to these trades; humility.

While Kevin Colbert did bring in the likes of Steven Nelson, Minkah Fitzpatrick and Joe Haden, he is also responsible for overseeing the acquisitions of Artie Burns, Sean Davis and Mike Mitchell. The fact that he has swallowed his pride to essentially say he was wrong about those previous acquisitions is an aspect that should be sang into a higher frequency of occurrence. Very seldom do General Managers admit to their mistakes and rectify them; those who fall into the Sunk Cost Fallacy doubly so.

For that matter, the biggest one who's ego constantly gets in his way is ironically Pittsburgh's next opponent. While it is not Jerry Jones here, Stephen Jones recently admitted that the team initially wanted T.J. Watt but chose Taco Charlton because Rob Marinelli thought that T.J. would not do well.

    Here ya go :thumbs up:

Over the past 38 months, the Steelers have made 16 trades, including such significant moves as acquiring safety Minkah Fitzpatrick from the Dolphins last year and linebacker Avery Williamson earlier in the week from the Jets.

For perspective, in Mike Tomlin’s first 10 years as coach, the Steelers made a total of 11 trades, including those that involved a player for a pick or a pick for a player. All were backups except for Bryant McFadden a decade ago, and he was a second-round pick who was gone for only a year.

The Steelers also went outside their norm when they signed Joe Haden hours after he was released by the Browns late during the 2017 preseason, when they gave Steven Nelson the most free-agency money in team history by signing him to a three-year, $25.5 million deal in March, when they moved up 10 spots in the 2019 draft to pick Devin Bush, and when they signed Eric Ebron to a $12 million deal this offseason.

It’s probably not a full shift of organizational beliefs, but it is something the Steelers have been willing to do recently for one reason or another.

Rest of the article and a list of all the trades can be read here:

One of the biggest knocks on Kevin by fans isn't about hits and misses in drafting but the contracts handed out to the players and whether they are good ideas or not. I think sometimes that is unfair due to what the market value at the time but they have put the team behind the eight ball before and somehow managed to make it work. I think he is one of the best personnel ppl in the business

He needs to get better when it comes to QB's. We still don't have Ben's replacement. Need to sign a proven QB instead of trying to develop one. The team doesn't have time with the o-line getting older.

Why replace Ben while he is still here?

Apparently so we can pay a lot of money to have a proven QB sit on the bench.

He might have 2 more seasons left in him. That elbow injury might come back and that'll be it.

Bring in his replacement & be prepared for locker room shenanigans. Nobody wants to watch Ben go out on the Jets.

It would suck to have a great season going , then Ben goes down , and so does the season because they dont have anyone descent waiting to take over. We already saw what happened last season.
