I hadn't. The Steelers have piled up some very ugly losses in the last two seasons. That one was as bad as any of them.

Why? Because the players they resigned are probably better than the players they replaced. They also know the Steelers system. There is a familiarity that goes both ways. They probably came fairly cheap by NFL standards. Both players are still fairly young. At this point it's as good a match as the Steelers could hope. I am not sure what's not to like?

It's not like there is a short or long list of players waiting to play back up "on the cheap" for the Steelers out there.

If another team spent a 2nd rounder on him, then it would've been a better signing.

Yes, so happy. I really wanted the Steelers to keep Davis and let him compete for the starting SS job this year. The offer from Washington was something the Steelers could not compete with all the money invested in Edwards.

Davis got robbed of his skill when the Steelers forced him to move to FS.

His stats at SS for the Steelers says he is a better SS than Edwards. Eventually this will be an upgrade for our Defense, when Davis takes back his starting role at SS.

How is that relevant? It's not like the Steelers gave up another draft pick here. They got him for the price of the contract. The only thing that matters is how well he plays this season.

There isn't unless you want to pay big money to that knucklehead Earl Thomas.

Good move. So was the Dobbs move for this year. Edmunds was said to have had a really good camp getting his hands on a lot of balls. Both Davis and Edmunds have made a lot of good plays for this team but that seems to get wiped out by one or two bad ones. Same with mason. The Steelers are in pretty good shape going into this season I think.

Looked up a few articles on this and Davis was seemingly dreadful in camp for Washington, got beaten out by a seventh rounder. Let’s hope we don’t end up depending on him.

And to add, we like 3 safety looks and this gives us 3 vets and Dangerfield as the 4th. Nice bunch back there. Davis could also be a good gunner with his speed.

I was going to try and keep track how many times that is said this season. I'm worried, we are 1 week away and it's started:)

As a rookie in 2016, Davis took a ridiculously bad penalty that cost us the Cowboys game.

I don't mind him for depth but I sure hope he isn't on the field in goal line and 3rd and 4th down situations

No one expected that top quality talent, but some one better than Sean would have been good.

I believe at this point, barring an emergency, Earl Thomas III is radioactive at this point to even warrant a contract. AB levels at that. Doubt anyone signs him at present.

I think the signing of former players is what happens with no pre-season. Once the season begins, just watch and see all the moves that start happening in weeks 2-5. I believe the thinking behind this move is that while he was not going to beat out Minkah, he may be a complimentary role on the other side. Minkah is the type of player that makes everyone around him play better much like Troy did.

    Oh!

I do not think so. At the same point in time, I doubt that Sean Davis was brought in for a mere reunion the same. I imagine that Tomlin did this to push Terrell a bit.

I have a theory. When Dobbs and Davis saw the turmoil and uncertainty of their new teams, there were like I want out (kind of like Minka and the Dolphins last year). What about the possibility that Dobbs and Davis kind of willed there way off their new teams through lackluster performances in pre-season in the hopes of being released. All along keeping in touch with their former teammates to make landing w the Steelers happen again.

More likely due to the fact that our depth consisted of danger field and allen

Given COVID and the new protocols for player safety, adding guys like Dobbs and Davis back is a good move. They have some sort of familiarity with our system.
