God forbid, it should ever come to this but; if it does.

I don't encourage anyone, without proper training, using guns but if you have the training and are on the fence about whether or not to use a gun, or what gun to use; these are some simple and proven points which may ease your mind.

IMHO, a double action revolver is the safest and most effective weapon for home protection.

    1. Unlike a pistol, a revolver has no switches, buttons, levers, latches, or anything to confuse you in a panic moment.
    2. A revolver is so simple it minimizes the potential of accidental discharge because the hammer does not rest against the firing pin....not likely to go off if you drop it. (but still possible)
    3. The double action means you can pull the hammer back, and then pull the trigger, or just pull the trigger and in an adrenaline rush the heavy hammer pull won't mean a thing.
    4. Just point and shoot.
    5. And in this case, the movies are correct, the sound of a hammer being pulled back is a frightening sound if you are at the wrong end of the gun! Maybe enough to chase the bad guy away?

Let's hope nobody has to find out!

Pump action shotgun puts the fear of God in anyone when it's racked. If it doesn't, they deserve what's coming. ;)

Yes sir! And the pump is a good home defense weapon as well accept for the fact that it could be hard to wield in a tight spot.

But there is nothing like the sound of 12 gauge Wingmaster being worked:smiley1:

My wife and I were talking about that. I don't own a gun and have not shot one in years. Stephen King wrote a great book years ago called The Stand. I remember it started with a deadly virus getting out of a controlled facility and it jumped from human to human and across the world. Those that survived were the young and the armed if I remember correctly. Should we reach that stage of anarchy that pretty much is what would happen. The armed young who are not infected would wipe out my development in short order. We are all older in here and so many of us have stocked up on food as our shopping stores are getting scary empty. They would come for our food. We all agree on one thing, we had our prime and most of us had a comfortable life so we figure we won should it come to anarchy.

Heard the first mention of civil unrest yesterday. I fear that way more then the virus at this point. In my own community their are faint stirrings since we are a summer resort town with an amazing 2 and 1/2 mile Boardwalk with tons of stuff to do on it. People can't get their stores ready and the summer money is the life blood of our town.

Setting aside the active home defense (guns, etc), I already have a great hardwired security system (doors, windows, glass break sensors, etc), but I wanted to know what’s going on before someone enters the house. I was looking at outdoor camera systems, and considering that I probably don’t have the skill to do a hard wired system without getting pissed off repeatedly, I focused on wireless. I’m a week into ownership of the Blink XT2 system with 6 cameras, and I’m surprised at how effective it is. I took advantage of a $399 sale that includes 5 outdoor cameras and 1 indoor camera. After some false alarms possums, raccoons), I adjusted the sensitivity and coverage area in the phone app, and I’ve now had 4-5 days of surprisingly good performance. My wife is a bit over the top about ordering things online right now, so the system gets tested every day by deliveries and never misses a vehicle in the driveway or a person approaching the house. There is a bit of a delay (2-5 seconds), but I figure that if someone comes onto the property with the intent of breaking in, they won’t be just sprinting up and smashing a window. They’ll poke around and try to figure out the best way in. The 2-5 second delay should be immaterial in that situation.

I ordered it thinking that I would simply return it if it didn’t work out. I figured it was a 50/50 shot. It’s actually pretty good.

Let's hope that if it comes to it, the criminally minded are smart enough to target the towns, communities, cities, and states who don't allow guns....making their job a lot easier and thus proving the Darwin theory.
