    Stadium was almost empty.

I was still in my seat. He caught it in front of where I sat. Although, I was in peanut heaven.

I never thought of leaving early again.

Mac and a few others here would have been there if they stayed.

That was the 1st nfl game I watched on tv and I've been a Steelers fan ever since. Does that make me a bandwagon fan?

I had already become a Steelers fan because of Joe Greene, but even before the Immaculate Reception, Franco had already become my favorite Steeler player. I had a friendly rivalry with a 5th grade classmate who was a Raiders fan. So after Stabler ran for the 30 yard TD, I was already not wanting to face my foe on Monday. Then when the play happened, I was yelling, screaming, jumping up and down. That play still brings back one of the sweetest memories of my youth. Franco and Polamalu were the best at being great at the greatest moments.

It was blacked out in the Pittsburgh area so I had to listen to it on the radio.

I was in Scranton, at my aunt's house wearing my brand new Sears and Roebuck Steelers sweatshirt (points for tie in to another thread).

I went to the refrigerator because I thought the season was over. I heard my dad yelling for me to get back into the living room. All I seen was Franco running out of the end zone after scoring. My father said at the time, this will be the greatest NFL play to go down in history and they will replay this play over always. He sure got that right.

Not even conceived of at the time.

That said and, something of an even greater oddity, I had not even heard of the play itself up until 2010.

It was confusing to me as a kid. I thought we had loss. I'm just glad that the film and camera crews caught it. It was a hopeless moment for steeler fans ...that instantly turned legendary.

Sears was Amazon before Amazon was Amazon. Did they drop the ball on that market or what?

It’s funny how many people who were not born then are sure it hit the ground, but no official or even Raider player thought that it did. I listened to the game on the radio (it was blacked out locally) and touching the ground was never an issue at the time.

    T
he issue was, did it hit Frenchy first. At the time, it couldn’t hit two offensive players without a defensive player touching it in between
