I like the move. The O-line haven't been great, and Grimble/Gentry blocking has not helped the problem. Considering that this year may be the only chance we get to evaluate Mason Rudolph, even if Vannett just helps to shore up the blocking enough on a one-year rental to see what Rudolph really has, it might be worth the 5th round pick if it helps the Steelers avoid making the wrong long-term decision about Rudolph.

Glad to have Nick on the team. He is more of a blocking Tight End. Not the best in the business but he is a tough one for certain. Need that mental fortitude for young Mason. He will need it.

However, acquiring a Tight End is only so much. For that matter, only the surface of the offensive woes. Is there any word on Feiler being challenged this week by either Banner or Chuks?!?! Seriously though!!

What a disappointment both he and Big Al have been. Edge rushers are eating them for breakfast... and I am not talking about just this past week either. The biggest oddity here for both especially is that they kept Mason clean against a strong Front seven in Seattle headlined by Jadeveon Clowney. Against San Fran?! DeForest Buckner became the star of the show!!

Here is the kicker; DeForest Buckner is billed as a power based pass rusher. Matt Feiler is known for his power and strength; reputed to be the strongest Steelers Offensive Lineman. What gives?!?!

49ers are getting no love, I think their D is legit. Dee Ford, Armstead, Buckner, Thomas and this guy who ate big Als lunch...

    Bosa is for real

We'll trade our 2021 and 2022 1st & 2nd rounders for Jalen Ramsey with one year left on his deal .

Oh trust me. I am well aware of whom they all are. Namely Bosa and Buckner. Those two by themselves are going to cause serious trouble for that entire division.

I agree and honestly I was surprised watching the game on how good the D was. They have one heck of a rush imo.

Vannett said him and Rudolph worked out this summer, maybe they will have some type of connection, he has to be better than Grimble.

Since we spent about 7 first rounders on this D does it make it twice as better?????

    https://steelersdepot.com/2019/09/w...nick-vannett-wont-be-new-to-qb-mason-rudolph/
“So funny thing with that is that we actually trained in the offseason, like right after the season last year,” Vannett said Thursday, according to audio on 93.7 The Fan. “So, I spent probably two, three months with him (Rudolph). Kind of throwing with him and working out at him. So, I kind of already knew him a little bit. And I remember when it was made public, you know, the trade, he hit me up and he was excited.”
Vannett said. “Having him help me, like, what I need to do or what I should do on the play. And that’s going to continue. I’m just going to get in the film room with him and just keep developing that relationship with him.”
"Vannett obviously doesn’t have a choice because he let it slip on Thursday that he’s likely going to see quite a bit of playing time Monday night against the Cincinnati Bengals."
“They plan on playing me a good amount and I’m not going to go in and have any doubt of what I’m doing, Vannett said. “I want to go in and feel comfortable that way so I can play fast, play confident and that’s how you get results. And so, I’m just going to do wherever it takes to be comfortable by then. So just gonna study the hell out of the game-plan.”

I don't think the front office is planning on him being a rental.

It takes two to tango. As I don't see a lot of incentive to sign an extension now. Since he's had no injury history as far as I know, he's better off testing the market. If he plays well from here on out, he'll get a Jesse James like contact. If he plays crappy, he won't be paid well, but at least he can pick a place where he can perhaps showcase his talents.

From the Steelers side, you don't want to overpay for a backup TE either.

I’ll be thrilled if whatever chemistry those guys had in the offseason is still there. We could use a break.

There is a game plan. It is the quality of the game plan that will shock him. :hehehe:
