In the Steelers vs Titans game on the first TD to JuJu, they went for the 2 point conversion it failed, but they still ended up with 8 points. NBC had 8 points on the board before the 2 point attempt .

First points were the safety. So 2 plus 6 is 8

    Umm. Safety = 2, TD = 6

    2 + 6 = 8.

This is why you never get up to get a beer during the game. Always wait for a commercial.

If it was a regular season game it would have been asinine for Tomlin to go for two in that situation. If they kick the extra the point they would have been up by 9 making it a two possession game. Instead they failed on the 2 point conversion leaving it a one possession game. I gave him the benefit of the doubt thinking it was just something they wanted to work on during the pre-season.

Ten points means a TD and a FG tie your team.
Nine points (what you want) means a TD and a FG beat you.

It is only a one possession game if the Browns make a 2-point conversion after a TD (not guaranteed), and even then it is still a tie.

(EDIT: Not saying that you don't have an argument for kicking the extra point, but there is also a non-asinine argument for going for 2.)

I don't think Tomlin would have gone for 2 if it was the regular season. I think it was predetermined that after the first TD the first team O was going for 2 just for practice.
I still think any time you can make it a 2 score game by just kicking the extra point that is what you do. I've seen too many times that if you go for 2 early and don't make it you are chasing those missing points for the rest of the game.

I don't believe going for 2 early in games happened many times.

Early in the game I don't think it matters much one way or the other. No one knows how a game will unfold. There's really no right or wrong decision under that circumstance.

Tomlin tried it twice in the first quarter vs the Cowboys in 2016 (the score was 6-0 the first time). Both attempts failed and cost the Steelers the game. He goes for 2 based on a 'gut feeling'.o_O:unsure:

You think I was happy knowing what was gonna happen with 40 seconds and then pretend to be a good sport and say good game to my cowboys friends? Lol

You talking about 2016? The Steelers loss the game 35 to 30. Even with those 2 points they would had loss the game 35 to 32. Simple math. So no going for 2 didn't cost the Steelers that game.

Most coaches make decisions based on their "gut feelings" or flow of the game at times. Sometimes they make the right decisions and sometimes they don't. That's the life of an NFL coach.

The score (lead/deficit) doesn't change the dynamics of the game? Momentum, scenarios, play calling ect all stay the same? The Steelers were 0-4 on 2 pt attempts in that game.
I highly doubt there's another coach in the league who bases 2 point conversion attempts on a gut feeling.

So then we would’ve lost 35-34?
Also extra points aren’t a given.

I have bad memories about Tomlin going for 2 twice in the 4th quarter playoff game against the Jags in 2008. Both attempts failed and the Steelers lost by 2 points. On one of the attempts there was a holding call that put the Steelers back at the 12 yard line and Tomlin still went for it.
That game and the 0 for 4 against the Cowboys is why I get a sick feeling in my stomach every time I see them go for 2.
