I am not sure I would do this, but a buddy of mine is steelers fan as well and he wants to cut harrison and sign wallace. His point being harrison is getting older and maybe has 2 more years left. His production has dropped off and he thinks in the long run it would be better for the team. Harrison has kinda become injury prone and we do have some young talent behind him. What do you all think? would it be a good move? by the way I know it would never happen

No way should we cut a Stud who wants to play for us for a guy who just wants money....Wallace has turned down bigger deals than Brown got,and he is not worth anymore than that....At this point I would not cut a practice squad guy to sign Wallace.....I still wish that someone would have gave us a 1st. rounder for him,we could have traded back and got Brian Quick....His camp reports are stellar so far....

Much better to have a Rookie in camp working hard than a guy with experience at home on the couch....Hard to build a Team with that kind of stuff going on...

No... won't happen. But I'd put money on it that Harrison will be a cap casualty after this season.

No. But they don't have to cut anyone to sign Wallace, they have enough if reports are true that he is looking for Antonio Brown money.

I wouldn't cut Harrison to sign Wallace. However, do not be surprised if this is Harrison's last season with the steelers. By this time next year the team will look radically different.

The only thing that any current Steeler player should do to help the Mike Wallace situation is to carry his bags to the bus station.

Yup. And I think he might actually retire. I think either his back goes out or we cut him, either way I see this as his last season... Which means it would be nice to see Worilds step up.

That is his point. You may have harrison for 1 year. You could have wallace for many more. I dont think we have enough to sign wallace at this point. No way he plays for less than brown and I dont want us to tie up that much money in 2 wrs. I love james as a player personally, but he has fallen off alittle bit.

They haven enough for something in the 5yr/50mil range. We don't have enough if he demands Fitz money and according to reports, he isn't.

If age was the only factor in this, I would completely agree with your friend. 8 more years of Wallace probably overshadows 1 or 2 more years of Harrison. That being said, Harrison is still a key to this defense and I am going to guess that the drop off from Harrison to Worilds or Carter is larger than the drop off of Wallace to Sanders.

The other key factor here is you don't overpay guys. It just isn't the Steelers way of doing things. They have a total number they are willing to give Wallace unless they hit that number, team will come before player. The Steelers will play hard ball with him and I truly believe after the first or second preseason game, he will be back in camp.

A little unrelated, but someone showed me a rumor on-line last night about a trade with the skins; Wallace for Cooley and Moss. Personaly I would not do it. Both are past their prime and Cooley stays injured too much now.

No, no, no! Even if this is the last year for Harrison, It will be a great year. Lets hope thet they win the Super Bowl with Harrison and he retires with another ring!. He is still better then anything that we have at camp right now. Dude can still play ad it would be a mistake to trade him. The longer Wallace holds out, it will be an opportunity to trade him. Some other team will get itchy and talk trade. I'm telling you, there are several teams out their that will need a fast receiver, the Colts and Rams come to mind. Believe me, Harrison will help us win this year. He will put in work against the Broncos and Manning. Infect, the whole team will be motivated for the game in Denver. I see Manning being put on his back, and Harrison will be a part of it!

we have other receivers, we don't have another silverback. i'll take that bet that he stays next year. woodley missed more time then james. he broke a friggin eye soket tackling a guy. he came back and had 4 sacks the next game played. injured years happen but he's tough as nails and very very good. he works to get better still at his age and it shows. a little knee swelling this early in camp won't hurt his game. we can keep wallace for the next couple of years after this one. about as long as JH.

I agree it's not the steeler way, but you have to admit we might have overpaid for some guys the past few years. woodley comes to mind. I mean I love woodley and would hate to see him go anywhere, but i think he got alittle more than he deserved. I said the same thing when we extend hampton.

If the young guys do not show high promise Harrison will be here next year for sure regardless of cap.

Any one like to read the NFL From the Sidelines Blog by Dave Lolley???? I just read this and was a little taken back by this. Wow!:

"@ Every day the Mike Wallace holdout continues is one day closer to Plaxico Burress returning to Pittsburgh.

    That's not a misprint.

Burress is definitely on the team's radar, and at some point, the Steelers are going to have to move on without Wallace.

Burress would be an immediate help to this team in the red zone."

Silverback WORKS at keeping in playing shape, he has alot left in the tank.
2 years for sure. They are being careful with him. As other posters mentioned we will be alright
at the WR position. I am looking for a trade to happen, 60 minutes apparently has asked for more than
what the Steelers are willing to pay.

Yeah, I'm not sure where people are feeling that this is JH's last year. He would have to be pretty abysmal this year before he is cut the next. Personally, I look for JH to have a great year and then start going the route of Smith over the next couple.

I thought about that. too. but I keep hearing that Burress wants to go to Philly. Made me wonder if Burress doesn't want to come back here now.

I don't see it. I was on board for a Plax reunion last season but that was with a laid back walk in the park BA system. I don't see him putting in the work that will be required of Haleys offense. Plus he's another year older. They just signed a kid that's a big target, maybe he will be of some value to the team.

    Tuesday news and notes

The Steelers held yet another feisty practice today, highlighted by a drill I had not seen them run before - something head coach Mike Tomlin called "wide receivers stalk blocking DBs."

The drill consisted of a player running with the ball toward an imaginary edge and the receiver firing out and blocking - or attempting to block - the defensive back in front of him.

Things got very heated in the competition, with wideout Derrick Williams getting into it with rookie corner Andre Freeman in a fight that brought in several teammates, including safety Ryan Clark.

Moments later, Ike Taylor or Antonio Brown got into a little pushing match.

At the completion of it all, the coaching staff brought both groups together - presumably to remind them that they are all on the same team.'

@ Every day the Mike Wallace holdout continues is one day closer to Plaxico Burress returning to Pittsburgh.

    That's not a misprint.

Burress is definitely on the team's radar, and at some point, the Steelers are going to have to move on without Wallace.

Burress would be an immediate help to this team in the red zone.

@ LaMarr Woodley continues to dominate the backers on tight end blocking drill, regardless of who the Steelers put in front of him.

Don't know if that is because he's that good, the Steelers' tight ends behind Heath Miller aren't that strong or both. I'm leaning toward a little bit of both.

Tuesday, it was Woodley again completely rag-dolling David Johnson on three consecutive runs through the drill. Woodley looks primed for a big year.

@ The Steelers have been giving both Mortty Ivy and Stevenson Sylvester some work at outside linebacker in an attempt to find some position flexibility there.

Ivy didn't look all that strong at the point matching up against Jamie McCoy, who might be the most consistent blocker of all the tight ends behind Miller.

@ Miller, by the way, returned to practice on a limited basis today and looked good catching the ball.

Keenan Lewis, who was thought to be out for at least a couple of days with a shoulder injury, went through a full practice.

A little competition goes a long way.

@ First-year quarterback Jerrod Johnson made back-to-back perfect throws in the final team session, making a beautiful sideline throw to Marquis Maze down one sideline. Maze had a nice diving catch on the play.

Johnson then dropped a ball in perfectly to Tyler Beiler over Freeman.

Johnson is a big kid (6-5, 251) but shows good mobility in the pocket. He could push Charlie Batch off the roster

this is what i've found about it TE.
