    I agree with the article.

    O-line on Day 1: Gilbert-Foster-Pouncey-DeCastro-Colon
    O-line next year: Adams-DeCastro-Pouncey-Colon-Gilbert

I know Kugler said he doesn't want moving parts and does want a finished product. I just can't see how he is going to get the best 5 to play this season, atleast early on.

I've read in a bunch of places that Adams isn't expected to start week 1, and perhaps not at all this season barring injury. On the other hand, all these analysts are saying he's the 2nd best tackle in the draft, it's just a matter of getting him to play like it. If he truly does have the talent of the 2nd best tackle, then he has the talent to start week 1.

Even if he isn't the absolute best at the position week 1, if he's good enough to get the job done, they should put him in, because continuity counts for something on the Oline.

Everyone just thinks Colon is going to go to guard like it's a super easy move. I don't see it happening. I think you see Colon at right, Legs or Foster a RG, Pouncey at Center, DeCastro at LG, Gilbert at LT. But, this what will happen because I got money that Peanut Brittle Colon gets hurt again. So you will see Adams, DeCastro, Pouncey, Legs or Foster, Gilbert to start the season.

Colon is never going to move to guard, I get so tired of saying that lol. I don't know where the notion started but he's a very good OT when he's healthy.

Adams is very inconsistent, and I think he would do well by perfecting his technique on the bench for a while. I personally would like to bring back Max to be the #1 backup for this season too. Just get Jonathan Scott off this roster.

I think will the hurt knee your not going to see Max back. Which is too bad becasue Max was a nice guy, he did well against an average pass rush, but at times had hard time stopping the big names.

2 rookies on the blind side? I would be shocked and amazed if that happened.

Coaches stated Colon will never move to guard, but drafting Adams changes everything. If Adams comes along and they deem him a RT, where does it leave Colon. If Adams is a LT and they decide to keep Gilbert on the right were does Colon go then? Does Colon get cut or do they move him inside?

To me I think best scenario is down the road... Adams is LT, Colon is RT, and Gilbert is LG

I think the day 1 lineup would be better served with Legs at LG because he's a better pulling OG. We ran almost exclusively to the right last year. Defenses knew this and was one reason our run game struggled. I believe foster to be a good OG-maybe more stoudt at the point of attack than Legs but less mobile and less effective pulling.

With Decatro @ RG pulling left and Legs @ LG pulling right our run game will greatly improve.
If Adams does like he is capable of I could see the "next year" lineup maybe even before the season ends.
I see a return to OL dominance which means another ring!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Okay, first lets understand WHY people say move him to guard. At Hofstra, where he played his college ball, and the position he was drafted at....was guard. So it isn't like the guy has no experience playing there. In addition, how many times have you heard Tomlin say they like flexibility in positions. THIS is why people say move him to guard. I don't know that this is an option for the coaches, as Kugler really hasn't gotten to see Colon play that much as he has been hurt since Kugler came.

Second, I think people are looking for ways to make the 5 best guys we have be on the field. When Adams is ready to be the LT, that is Colon, Adams, Pouncey, Gilbert, and DeCastro. Where you put those guys I have no idea. If we get to camp and they end up putting Gilbert at LG for some snaps, we'll know.

Willie Colon needs to play where it best serves the team. What has he done to warrant a guaranteed Tackle spot? Sean Kugler said himself that he will put them in the proper spot. I still think Adams wins the LT spot in TC and preseason.

The notion comes from the fact that Colon was originally a guard.

They might be rookies but it's a given upgrade over Starks and Kemo.

Colon likes to get caught for a false start penalty every know and then, maybe a move to guard will cut his penalties down?

No it comes from the fact that when he was a rookie his arm length had some wondering if he would HAVE to move in to guard... But he's done just fine at tackle.

Someone said if Adams wins the spot where does that leave Colon? It leaves him as a backup or off the team. I think it's more likely Colon is cut than moved to guard.

Haha, you guys worry too much about where Colon will play. All indications point to him being injured by the second preseason game.

They sound like they want to keep DeCastro at RG, but I don't see any reason on earth he can't make the move to the left. If anyone can, it's him. I don't think there's as big a difference between the two positions as most people, but regardless of the difference, it stands to reason our LT will not be as good as our RT, whoever they are, and therefore could use the best help possible, which would be DeCastro. Maybe they put him there, maybe they don't. Foster -- not Legursky -- is the other guard on the team, and he played well in his one game at LG, but has way more experience at RG. They say DeCastro will play RG, but I kind of just don't believe them. That's what they said about Pouncey. Everything else all depends on the development of Mike Adams. When will he be ready to play? I have no idea. Won't really know until training camp/preseason. Could be week 1, week 4, or year 2.

    Before Adams is ready:

    Gilbert - Foster/DeCastro - Pouncey - DeCastro/Foster - Colon

Backups: Adams swing OT, Legursky swing OG/C

    After Adams is ready:

    Adams - Gilbert/DeCastro - Pouncey - DeCastro/Gilbert - Colon

    Backups: Foster #1 @ OG, #2 @ RT, Legursky #2 @ OG and #1 @ C

A word about those backups, and how I excluded anyone with real NFL OT experience. If any injury occurs at OT, we already have two LTs in Adams and Gilbert, and 4 RTs in Colon, Adams, Gilbert, Foster, so instead of a straight sub, we'll shuffle. We can plug Foster in at OG and move Gilbert wherever. The reason to go this route is to keep the highest level of talent on the field. Scott? Backup at RT only and due a ton of money, he's gone. Essex is the only other somewhat experienced OT around, and he is terrible there. Weight loss cannot save him. Only reason to keep Essex over Legursky is if he can beat him straight up at the interior positions. He's in shape, so good luck.

As for Colon to guard, I've said in the past that I'm all for it, at least as an experiment. In his early days he struggled to pass protect in space, and he is a beast in small areas. And if Gilbert can't make the move, it only makes sense. However, I'm not sure how he'd do pulling. He looks terrible on the rare occasions he pulls as a tackle. Foster is not that bad at it. But the team has not only said he won't move to guard, they backed up that talk with actions. They've had so many chances to do it and refused. Nothing's impossible, but there's no reason to expect a change now.

Make no mistake, if Mike Adams doesn't win the LT spot it won't have anything to do with talent. He has long arms, great stature and quick feet. Those attributes can't be taught. A motivated and dedicated Adams will be a legitimate LT for the Steelers.

the notion comes from a pre-season game a few yrs. ago where the coaching staff tried him out at right guard just to push the position flexibility issue, and he was an absolute beast during his time on the field............. he showed the potential to be an all pro and if adams proves he's ready, then colon inside would not only protect him physically, but also give us the best line that we've had in quite some time, and maybe one of the best in the league.

i remember they even tried him at center in practice before, so it's not like they have never tried him at other positions. just not on gameday. he may not be an immediate success at guard, but i don't think it would be a big stretch for him at RG. we do only have foster and legs signed for one year. who knows, maybe it ends up , adams, decastro, pouncey, foster, gilbert. i do think legursky is in for the fight of his life, and not being able to workout until camp is going to hurt his chances. you need your shoulders to be able to play the line. we have some talent here and some really good looking depth. the only thing that worries me is adams and decastro ( hitting the wall) late in the year.
