    QB (3): Ben, Landry, Dobbs
    - No surprise

RB (4): Bell, Conner, Watson, Nix
    - Just as I wanted it.

WR (6): Brown, Bryant, Eli, JuJu, DHB, Hunter
    - Coates traded as I suspected. Hunter made it for actually catching balls.

    TE (3): Vance, James, Grimble
    - Biggest surprise today. I wonder if it was cap related. I would've kept DJ or McGee over Grimble

OL (9): Al, Foster, Pouncey, Decastro, Gilbert, Hawkins, Hubbard, Finney, Feiler
    - As I predicted early, Feiler made the team

    (25)

DL (6): Heyward, Hargrave, Tuitt, Alualu, Walton, McCullers
    - 2nd biggest surprise... McCullers still has a job

ILB (4): Shazier, Williams, Matakevich, Fort
    - As I predicted, no room for Steven Johnson

OLB (5): Dupree, Watt, Harrison, Chickillo, Moats
    - No surprises

CB (7): Haden, Burns, Sensabaugh, Gay, Sutton, Hilton, Allen
    - As I stated after the Haden move Cockrell was out, but keeping all 3 of Allen, Hilton, and Sutton is surprising. I suspect Sutton is going on IR.

S (4): Mitchell, Davis, Golden, Dangerfield
    - Possibly a move coming off waivers?

    S/T (3): Kanady, Berry, Boswell

    (29)

By my count we have 54 players on the roster. It's all but certain that Sutton goes on IR when Bell signs.

Pretty close to what I was I was realistically hoping for.

DJ had to go. Grimble just offers more while Jesse James can settle in as more of a pure blocker.

McCullers can play when motivated. KEEP HIM MOTIVATED.

Was surprised Allen made the team.

If Sutton goes to IR, why trade Cockrell?

What other moves may we see?

We would still be at 54 players. So either trade cockrell or cut someone else.

DJ did not have to go. I find the decision very puzzling. Haley's playbook requires a 2nd TE to block the edge. Turning that role over to Jesse (as Vance will clearly be the #1) is a downgrade for what is required of that role. Grimble is nothing more than a backup, who offers nothing in the blocking game. I hate the move, and I hope that it was purely cap related (if they sign Ward, and dumping vet contracts created the cap space for that... Im ok with it.

McCullers is utterly underwhelming. But it's not like Maxey and Hooks beat him for the job. I simply thought they'd finally move on from McCullers.

Sutton and Cockrell have no relation when it comes to the roster. Cockrell is strictly an outside CB (doesn't play the slot, doesn't play special teams). Cockrell lost his spot to Haden, and Sensabaugh was more versatile to be the primary backup outside.

They still kept 6 CBs without counting Sutton.

With bell and Sutton we are at 54, with cockrell we would be at 55. So even if Sutton is sent to injured reserve we would have __ number of players on the roster?

It's definitely a downgrade in terms of blocking from the TE position. We will have to get creative in our blocking on the edges.

I know someone had mentioned in another thread about using Hubbard more as a blocking TE. I know you didn't like the idea but perhaps that is the plan.

We will see if dropping DJ was also a cap saving move as part of a bigger plan.

I personally like McCullers but i understand why others thought he should go. I liked Maxey but he wasn't can't miss. Likewise I never got the Hooks hype.

If Sutton goes to IR he will be more replaced by Sensabaugh. I guess I find the decision to keep Allen on the 53 (an outside guy) and to trade Cockrell peculiar.

I don't get the David Johnson cut at all. Keeping McCullers has me puzzled as well.

When Bell signs, Sutton likely to IR

    We will be at 53.

I guess I'm just a little surprised we kept Allen on the 53 and traded Cockrell.

Tunch and Wolfe thought his size and flashes of ability were what would keep him on the 53, saying if they tried to get him on the PS that the Ravens nab him right away.

I saw they said Sutton was significantly hurt didn't get a chance to look into the details....are you saying IR for year or designated to return....
don't worry if our decision to cut DJ backfires ,we have his phone number....he will be on the couch waiting for our call...

They must think they have a diamond in the rough with Allen. I hope they're right.

If it's designated to return someone else will be getting the axe in about 9 weeks.

The DJ moves just makes less and less sense every time I think about it. Everything we are doing is in a win now effort. DJ has a proven track record in our run game. NONE of the TEs have that. We can speculate that Jesse will be able to move in to that role, as Vance takes the pass catching role from him. But why??? Why did we put ourselves in the position to cross our fingers? For Xavier ****ing Grimble???

I don't think McCullers offers much as an NFLer... but he's been on the roster as a backup, and there was no one really pushing him off the roster. It's not the move I would've made, but I get it.

Keeping Allen, and not risking him on waivers... it's not the move I would've made. But it get it. It's a fair choice.

The DJ move makes no sense (when combined with cutting McGee, who at least showed against preseason backups that he could execute).

Hubbard cannot do what DJ did. Hubbard is not motioning off the line.... get real.

I will admit he looked good enough for somebody incredibly raw. Don't recall him making any glaring mistakes.

The potential is there if they can unlock it but the track record for that is not the best.

I think your initial thought was right, RPO. This had to be a move to free up money/cap room for bringing in another player.

I dont really have an argument to make on cutting DJ from a scheme point of view. Have to wait and see what their plan is I guess. I probably would have thought maybe McGee would make it if DJ was cut.

We definitely have a weakness when it comes to blocking from our TEs.

Exactly, we created a weakness... for no good reason (Xavier Grimble's potential in year ****ing 4 in NOT good enough reason to create a weakness on a contender).

Didn't Ben mention some new wrinkles to the offense.... maybe they are phasing out the 2 TE sets?

It's a staple of our run/pass option offense.
