So in this game there were 46 passing plays by Ben, and there were 19 running plays.

There were at least 2 times, if not more, where Ben went for a long bomb on both 1st and 2nd down, wasting both of the first 2 downs of a series on bombs that went for incomplete passes.

I've long been a believer in tiring out the defense with running plays, and the opening up the passing game when you've done so. That type of play is clearly not happening.

Yep. One time only in the game did they use a fullback. Result = TD.

We need to get back to Steelers football cause this run and shoot crap doesn't win games. Never has, never will.

Those plays, when there are enough of them, still tire the defense. Then you open it up for bigger runs and more successful passes.

We put up 30 points. Should have been 34 points if our coach wasn't a genius. Blame the defense they gave up. 35 points.

Not to mention a touchdown for 50 yards on a 3rd and 11 or even worse an 84 yarder on a 2nd and 18.

    Blame that not play selection

Slingin it all around is great, but if you do you better be highly consistent at it.

Ben never really was. He always has been a sandlot sling it downfield guy.

I've always liked establishing something early and playing off that later.
When we ran the ball back in the day Ben was a great play action QB, I miss those days.

They didn't need that fake spike, they scored too soon. They should've ran more plays to score a TD, Dallas had 3 timeouts.

Everyone watching at our house didn't celebrate when we scored with the fake spike. Just about everybody shouted out that there was too much time left. ! With 40 some seconds left it's a shame that we have to think like that, and just shows you how bad our defense has become.

When Ben throws more than 40 times a game Steelers winning percentage
    goes down.

Bell needs to step up, and give them a reason to run the ball

Imagine if we had a RB like Elliot to compliment Bell. I miss the days of the big bruising RB like Betis

It wouldn't matter. One of them would be riding the pine on this team.

Situationally it would be a good tandem. Elliot is a bull compared to Bell. We need a back like that

Yep. Plus we used a TO on that drive. Our coaches and Ben have no concept of clock management. None! I'm not saying you don't get the TD when you can, but they were hurrying too much and should never have used a TO

Bell is a big bruising RB, but there's been no holes for him to run through at full speed like Elliott has. Bell can never get a head of steam because he's constantly waiting for something to open us that he can slide through. Get him at full speed and he'll take on any LB in the league

Its amazing how there was 2:00 minutes left and they were able to score with :42 seconds left on the clock and then Dallas scored at TD. Seems like games of late are won or lost in the last minute to two minutes. Maybe we could just set the clock to 2:00 in the 4th qtr and been done with it.. Saves a hell of a lot of time and frustration lol

With this Oline, he doesn't have a choice. But don't forget, his patience is what makes him so special. Anyone can run through the holes Zeke did last night, but good luck trying to run through the cracks that Bell gets. Our Oline has been a special kind of terrible this season

Yes, I agree it would make great sense to have them compliment one another if you were able to put together a tandem like that. In 2016, our team is way too pass happy for that to ever stand a chance though.

This team throws the ball 65.34% of the time in 2016.

Every 2 point conversion try was a pass play from 2 1/2 yards out. Last I checked the closer to the goal line you get the more difficult it becomes to complete a pass. Why even attempt a pass play in that situation, especially with an opening TD drive against a 7-1 opponent where points will matter most at the end. This team was playing catch up all game long over that bone headed coaching decision. It was like watching my 9 year old coaching his Madden team.

I would totally agree with you if in fact there was no holes. I think sometimes there are and he chooses to be hesitant or take the wrong lane. I dunno cause I believe what we see is different that the perspective of Bell.

Edit: Would love to hear from the Oline and their perspective. This line should be better then average.

Let's not forget Bell is ilusive but he is slow in the open field, when is the last time he had a long run for a touchdown? It's been a long time and he certainly had enough opportunities.

Right now you can say he is not the best rushing back in the league. Wondering if his knee surgeries have anything to do with it.

Yep way too much hesitation, sometimes for no reason, some of his lack of production is on him, also lack of speed shows when he does get into the open field.

It really doesn't matter what style of O we run until we fix the D ..We can't beat any good Team with our Defensive play ...If you can't stop a Team with 42 seconds on the clock you have serious problems...

I see it a bit differently. I think he uses the zone blocking perfectly to flow with the blockers and look for the cutback lanes when they open up. I can't count the number of times it's looked like there was nothing there, and then he makes a little cut and skinnies his way through a backside crease. That kind of running can wear down a defense as well as a fullback led power attack because the front seven is having to move laterally all game, and they're often having to fend off second blockers as the first guy disengages. We just need to stick with it more.
