The OP is correct when he's trying to say fans think we always play with too much cushion.... That was really born during LeBeaus final few years.

Having the cushion is fine when you have great pass rushers like we did, but when our ability to pressure the QB started to fall off we didn't tightened up our coverage and we were beat, called old and slow and DL was replaced with Butler.

Butler came in with a purpose, he unleashed the DL to help add more Pressure and tightened up the coverage when it was appropriate to do so considering down and distance & etc...

I don't think the Steelers have played zero cover or even cover 1 much at all if any. If they did you'd see much more tighter man to man CB play. We play many different variants of zone coverage in the secondary which requires different types of CB zone-to-press cover.

Gay is perfectly suited to play off zone and Artie if perfectly suited to play press. Ross is a CB without a specialty but plays both Okay.

I fine it interesting in the KC 4th Qtr everyone of Gilbert's Defensive snaps came with him replacing Dangerfield and guarding the TE ( oversized WR) ......
