Great point, Tibet, I mean, Snack...
I was actually thinking along the same lines when I was thinking about Ben restructuring...
    What`s 5 million to him?
    5% of his contract?
Say I make 40 thousand a year, paid by the hour, not salary,(busting my ass on 8 to 12 hours overtime a week, like the sacks he takes over the season)...would I be willing to give up 2thousand a year(same 5%), to guarantee(or at least be reasonably sure), that the company I work for, would be successful, thereby continuing to offer me a good paying job?(and I wouldn`t have to work the overtime/take the sacks)and still bring home 38thousand a year?
    HELL YES!!!
They live in a different world from me, and you!
This is why I hate to think about the money side of the game.
All the players/owners wanna call it a "Business", which, it is, as far as players getting traded, revenue for the league, tv contracts, etc...
But that`s not why we watch, as fans!!!(who provide the money for the "business"..)
And any player who wants to whine to me about not being able to "provide for their family", while they are getting paid to play a GAME, can kiss my ***!!!
Sorry, didn`t mean to go off on a drunk rant.
Love the game, hate the money involved!

I think Ben was willing to do something in order to make room for Plaxico. ( but that loser went to the jets)

Bleedsteel, Jeff Hartings really helped us and he was a lineman. I totally understand your frustration though, another offseason with little free agent activity. GO STEELERS!

Thanks. Forgot about Hartings... Tuff to live up to the legacy we have had at center, but he did a damn good job.
My frustration isn`t about not signing free agents, it`s about the amount of money that these "athletes", think is "not enough"...
Peace, all.. I need to go sleep, so I can get up and work for my money in the morning...

I don't know what Omar Kahn gets paid a year, but they better never let him go....pay him whatever he wants. This guy takes care of the team, and our players!

I don't know the details either, but I do believe that have kicked the can down the road. They have shifted more $ of the contract to later years. So this is not a 'permanent' fix, but a fix for 2012 and maybe 2013.

Second, I think people need to understand what re-structuring means. The player doesn't take a pay cut, the player doesn't lose any money. Say Woodley has 4 yrs left on his contract and has a $5M salary for this year (these are not the real numbers, but just an example). He'd be a $5M cap hit, but if they restructre and pay him the $5M as a signing bonus, then he's only a $1.25 MM hit for 2012. He still gets the $5M, but $3.75M is stretched out over the remaining 3 yrs and eats into the cap number in those years.

i just want to add that these types of contracts are not good for the team in the long run. Since these bonus amounts will always count against the cap at some point for the Steelers, unlike salaries that can be cut or reduced.

You can end up with a player with a 4 mil cap hit (1 mil in salary, and 3 million is part of the bonus that was spread out over the contract). You cut that player, it only reduces the cap hit by the salary 1 million. That 3 mil will count against the cap.

Agreed. I don't have anyone to compare him to, but he seems very, very good at what he does. If he can pull this off without killing us I say give the man a raise.

    Bad news about Kahn...
That guy seems to be a wizard with contracts, and we certainly need that right now!

Seeing that he only plays about half the season,
this would seem a reasonable gesture on his part. Lets see, he comes
into camp out of shape almost every year, first 5 weeks he does nothing,
plays great from week 6 to 10 then comes up with injuries the rest of year.
Yea the Steelers are getting alot of bang for their buck? He couldn't wear
Greg Lloyds ,Kevin Greene, Jack Ham, Andy Russells JOCK STRAP.
    HE IS LAZY.
