Just thought I'd get an objective opinion.

    http://www.rotoworld.com/articles/nfl/62387/174/draft-2016-afc-draft-grades?pg=1

    Pittsburgh Steelers

1 (25). Miami CB Artie Burns
2 (58). Maryland DB Sean Davis
3 (89). South Carolina State DT Javon Hargrave
4 (123). LSU OT Jerald Hawkins
6 (220). Washington LB Travis Feeney
    7 (229). Houston WR/PR DeMarcus Ayers
7 (246). Temple ILB Tyler Matakevich

Overview: Heavily linked to Eli Apple and Karl Joseph before the draft, the Steelers were zoned in on early-round defensive backs. More of a project than most first-rounders, Burns is a raw boom-bust prospect who was widely not seen as a top-32 player. That pick looks like a need-driven reach. Davis is an impressive athlete, but coughed up ten touchdown passes over his final two college seasons and is a corner-safety 'tweener. Hargrave was my favorite Steelers pick. While not necessarily a solution at nose tackle, Hargrave is a disruptive interior presence who wrecked the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference, twice winning MEAC Defensive Player of the Year. A sub-baseline-NFL athlete, Hawkins was another reach in round four. Feeney, Ayers, and Matakevich will likely max out on special teams. Although GM Kevin Colbert hit on some needs, I wasn't thrilled with the value he got from this draft and I'm not convinced the Steelers came away with many (any?) early-career impact players.

    Grade: C-

They give the Ravens a grade of "A" and they give the Bengals a grade of "B"

OMG, my head is gonna explode!!!! If I hear or read one more freakin time that the Steelers reached I am gonna lose it. I just don't get it the Steelers lost out on Apple, Joseph, Neal and WJAX3 and now people are saying Burns was a reach, myself included at the time. However when you see all the "steeler" targets go in front of them what were the suppose to do....draft Billings.....if he is so great why did EVERYONE pass on him for 3 rounds and almost a 4th???? Or maybe Alexander who almost made it to our 2nd pick.....Fuller???? oh that's right he almost lasted to our 3rd pick!!

Was Artie a reach yeah if some of the guys the Steelers were targeting was left on the board. Rotoworld here is a big FU!!!!!!!!!!!! I am so pissed right now over this, every expert said the Steelers need secondary help.....well they got it. Don't talk like it was a reach when you have no idea what their board looked like.....and another thing I am sick of hear how Matakevich is gonna be a STer and nothing more. Stop stop stop the only way that happens is if the Steelers don't give him a chance, this kid can play! Hello speed isn't everything if so the DHB would not be on our team he would be on the way to a HOF career with the Raiders!!!!

Ok sorry but I needed to vent................:mad::mad::mad:

lol, easy NY, don't let a bunch of hacks get you so upset. Guarantee you the Steelers didn't have the same grade as rotoworld had on him. Only time will tell who was right.

Steelers don't reach, don't panic, they construct a board and stick to it religiously. Someone posted a great article that gave a peak into the Steelers war room and gave a description of the two boards they use, a vertical board (BPA) and a horizontal (BPA of need). It was very interesting.

Doesn't mean their grades/picks are always right (Archer cough cough) but they are very meticulous about how they draft. They have 100% faith in their board which is why you see them hand a pick in so quickly, they just consult their board and see who is next.

Rotoworld, walterfootball, I give them this ... :bscow:

Draft Grades immediatly after the draft hold as much value as mock drafts immedeatly after the end of college football season. Zippo.

You mention the Steelers board and yeah I know for the most part they don't reach and that's what ticks me off. These "experts" should know this, it is not like this is the 1st draft the Steelers ever did.....Any ways sorry to all but I needed to vent :smiley1:

My take on these grades are that the author is basically grading the organization against what they (the author) would have done. In most cases these "authors" are not and have never been employed by an NFL team. I could go create a blog right now and post my "grades" for all these teams but I won't. I rather take a nice long dump instead.

As per usual, Rotoworld and the like never cease to amaze me. What better way to obtain some clicks than write a controversial article. As if people in Pittsburgh did not have people like Paul Ziese who are not controversial enough.

Ultimately, why trust a group of metric/analytic hacks over a team who has well over 20+ of getting the draft correctly? Realistically, sites like Rotoworld or the Washington Post, when it comes to drafts, are knee-jerking to the extreme; a problem that has become expansively ambiguous in the world of gridiron football analytics.

For that matter, I believe a should make a counterpoint article about this considering the lack of knowledge sites like Rotoworld have for teams like the Steelers, Falcons, Jets, or any other team.

i think the trouble is we went for our best available guy at a certain position of need. there were other positions that were probably ranked higher than burns that we passed on. i still don't think artie was the 25th best player in the draft but we needed to get a corner high and we did. we felt he was the best uninjured player at that position that really had some production (interceptions) and offered some better fits to our style here. i think they were scared off by fullers injuries enough to pass. i think they were scared off of alexanders lack of interceptions and the fact that he was pretty much a man only player at this point. next best was artie. we took him.

as for davis, his numbers are freak like and he is position flexible. again good fit.

    hargraves, forgeddaboudit. a+++.

the rest could become good players as our guys age and maybe alot more. plenty to work with. yes the teams in our division kicked our butts a little in the draft but alot of that is from where they picked and they still didn't have the season we did last year. the bungirls tried to screw us and i hope they are happy when we knock them out again this year. b-more with their A grade has a long way to go.

The Ravens had the best draft outside of Jacksonville. Their mid/late round picks are fantastic. Kaufusi, Tavon Young, Matt Judon, Kenneth Dixon, Chris Moore, Willie Henry, Canady, etc.

    Hate them, but they excelled.

You cant grade a team picking in the 6 spot to a team picking at 25, these draft picks havent even had their helmets sized yet, what these rookies do this year and next will determine who got the best out of this draft, I said I wanted us to draft Kaufusi with our late 2 pick but it just didnt happen that way for us, but overall we got some pretty good size and speed from the two DBs we did draft in round 1 and 2 and some decent prospects in the other 5 rounds, and now it's up to our coaches to teach them the NFL way.....

This is so funny. Remember a few years ago the Browns killed it in free agency and followed it up with best draft in division? How did that work out?lol

I personally don't have a problem with a C- overall grade by Rotoworld. I was underwhelmed by our selections.... but the Steelers fan in me wants them to all have the heart and drive of James Harrison type players..... "hey they rated me a C.... I'll show them" type attitude.

Maybe a B grade will make you feel better about the draft:

The Steelers reached for Burns at #25 as many of the so called experts want to suggest, yet the Giants drafted Apple at #10 that was a major reach. Also the Falcons taking Neal #17 another reach, Rotoworld is irrelevant to me I don't visit their site unless somebody links it to a post.
