I had high hopes for McCullers being that guy and I hope he still does fulfill that. Would they take another player in that mold, I don't know.

Brilliant Thig! We could file an ADA request to allow him to play using this power wheelchair:

I'd be all for it if his price was right. I thought they should have brought him in last year or whenever it was too.

    Got a question...................

If the Jets offered us Muhammad Wilkerson for two 2nd round draft picks (this year and next year's) would you do it?

No. We'd give up 2 picks, and we'd have to pay him a gazillion dollars or lose him in free agency next year.

I would assume that anyone who trades for him would work out something long term in principal. So assume that.

Of course, but look at recent deals for top tier D linemen. Suh got something like 6 yrs, 104 mil with 40-50 mil guaranteed. Malik Jackson just got 6 yrs, 85-90 mil with around 35 mil guaranteed. Wilkerson is not likely to settle for anything less than Jackson, and he is worth more IMO. He's a great player, but we can't - and shouldn't - spend like that. Also, while he's a notch better than Heyward, they're very similar players, as is Tuitt. If I'm going to spend big bucks, I want a speedier edge guy, not a slightly better version of the guys that are already here.

Okay; I was just curious on what people thought about Wilkerson. I knew he was out of our pay scale but he's a guy who can rotate from tackle to end and is effective at both. I think that's the most unique thing about him to me. Love that flexibility.

No, he's looking to get paid like the top DL the Steelers aren't going to pay 12-15 million nor should they. He also is coming off a knee injury.

He would play less than McClendon did. It would be a waste. We need DE/DT material that can rush the passer.

No we don't that is what Heyward and Tuitt are for. He would be in there on running downs just like Big Mac was. Mac rarely played on passing downs so it would be basically an even swap.

Heyward and Tuitt played to many snaps last year. We need someone who can spell them or can possibly play in there place if one gets injured.

I really liked this guy when he was a free agent with the Jags and he was an under the radar guy signing a nice contract with Den. I think he is looking for a multi year deal since he just signed a 1 year deal with the Skins last year so why see if we could catch a deal by offering a 3 year deal in the 8 mil range? I think he could offer us a lot and also help big Dan grow, or even a draft pick. Kinda cool site right here on market value:

colbert was on steelers.com talking about the league wide devaluation of the NT position. i think finding those guys that can give you DE/DT snaps both is the new normal. heyward, tuitt, walton, lyons, dodd, lawson, nkemdiche, buckner, lowery.

I was thinking that since we are not a set 3-4 or 4-3 defense....

sure we need a guy or two like big dan for goal line and short yardage, but for the most part they hurt us in a normal defense. pass rushers like tuitt and heyward on the inside are guys that can run and penatrate but guys like dupree that can run on the outside with the DE size but LB'er speed are what we need. i'm also all for another ilb'er like lee that can run like a safety instead of williams. williams and big dan could have there place on short yardage and goal line. big corners that can tackle and cover at the safety spot should also be the new norm in this evolving defense. add a couple of short area quickness, good coverage, good tackling corners and we increase the speed and coverage ability all over the defense. speed kills.
