If there were no salary cap in the NFL?

How long would it be until Jerry Jones, Bob Kraft and other very, very, very wealthy owners start filling up their trophy cases?

Would the Steelers ever win another Championship?

Would you continue to be a fan of the NFL?

I have asked this question before also (not on here). Very interesting idea and my only solution was to go out and work the corner, sending all proceeds to the Steelers. Then I remember that I am an ugly man and probably not going to solicit much action!

Of course we would, teams have shown time and again that loading up in FA rarely works.

And as a fan of another team in another sport with no cap and is the biggest spenders, I can tell you that all it accomplishes is keeping you in the hunt but rarely equals a world championship.

The Steelers did win 4 super bowls prior to no free agency. That was way before the huge billionaire owners we see of many teams today.
Who knows, I like the salary cap makes it more interesting year in and out.

I think short-term we would, but eventually teams like Dallas, Washington, New Yorks teams, and now the Rams with their market, would slowly start to strangle the smaller market teams

Absolutely. I have no idea why people think the Rooneys are cheap because they don't overpay for throw away players. I have never liked free agency

If you are a good or great player u will never hit the market.

I don't quite agree. You can be a good or great player and price yourself out of the market.

If there were no salary cap, there still would be revenue sharing. In the NFL virtually all of the TV money is shared, unlike MLB where unshared local TV $ gives a huge edge to large market teams. You wouldn't have the huge revenue disparities in an uncapped NFL as in MLB. So I think most teams could stay competitive. Also, it's probably harder to buy all the pieces for a championship NFL team than it is for any other sport, just because of the nature of the game.

The problem is the Rooneys come in at like the 30th richest owner. They couldn't keep up with the spending the billionaires would spend.

I think the salary cap has caused us to lose more player then anything.

Except that in baseball, small market teams still remain competitive and win more of the WS's then the big market teams do so I would expect similar results in football.

If you scout well, you can remain competitive.

Yes Sir! Just look at the Yankees and Dodgers to show you what endless $$$$$ brings you year in and year out. LA hasn't won the big one since '88. With no salary cap though, the Steelers might be lucky to make the wild card game 3 years in a row like their neighbors but somehow we'd find ourselves in the same division as the Pats and rarely get beyond that game.

I see your point but they didn't become billionaires by spending carelessly. It's not like they would pay 100 million for a backup linebacker

I believe this to be true or the Rooneys would probably just look for a serious buyer as a longer term solution.

The Steelers could not compete in a non revenue sharing league.

I think most teams could not. Therefore there would not be a league.

They will just have to build like they did in the pre-Ben Cowher years, build through the trenches with a hopefully better than average game manager at QB. It can be done. GO STEELERS!

sure they would but they would do it different. Jerry jones would pay for every free agent and pay them what they were use to worth. The steelers would lock up, up and comers not even in there prime. And do not be fooled, the rooneys have tons of money.........
