Just to clarify: you're saying that you would have gone for it on 4th down every time we were in FG range?

Not upset one bit, not even the teeny tiniest of bits. Denver has a better defense then we do. Their pass rush is better and their defensive backfield is exponentially better.

No. I would have understood some situations it was 4 down territory. You can't keep settling for fgs against the best defense in the league and win. So maybe try a run and see how many you can get and if it's like 4th and 1, go for it. They got in scoring position the most out of any team that faced the Broncos this post season and settled for 3 field goals. Turn one of those into a touchdown and could be a win. But at the end of the day the gameplan was good enough to win but it relied on nobody messing up. Tomlins guy messed up and that's why he gets the blame. Everybody was dejected after that fumble and knew that was the game.

this game proves that you always choose the edge rusher first before you select a cornerback.

Your gif is a microcosm of being lucky/fortunate in this league and how the bounce of the ball can change the entire game or season....3 Steelers ready to pounce on the ball and it magically goes right to the Denver player. There were plays in last nights game as well. Bottom line is you gotta be lucky and good enough to capitalize on mistakes.

Right. But "settling for a FG" is deciding to kick it rather than try to convert on 4th down. Essentially, that's all it is. Unless you genuinely think Tomlin was there saying: "nah, just get close enough to kick it. We don't need more points than necessary. Let's not be selfish."

I think the problem is that you're misunderstanding how the term is used - you saying they "settled for FGs" like it was a tactical decision, when the term is used to indicate circumstances forced the fewer points on them. That may be why it wasn't an option in the pre-game thread

I was just coming to post that this is probably what happened in 412s house after the Toussaint fumble against Denver, but instead of "damn you Cam Newton" it was
    "Damn you Mike Tomlin."

He probably did that to his TV when he saw 'Patriots sign RB Steven Jackson' scroll across the bottom of his screen on the ESPN ticker.

I would've given us a chance with our O, but they've been pretty Jekyll and Hyde down the last stretch. You never know, but I doubt we beat New England with our D (we could've out scored them... Depending if the revved up O showed up) at their house. We could out score Carolina the same, but we're out of our minds if we think our current D was gonna stop them.

Best shot we had would be that the game was too big for Cam and he choked but honestly he wilted under pressure which of the sort we don't provide. I don't think they're D would've kept us grounded by any stretch of the imagine if we were healthy, but our D is a few more mates away from doing what Denver did to New England and then Carolina
    last night.

The Bengals have one of the most talented teams in the league. They are probably the most talented team top to bottom in the AFC. It's the thug moves and weak mindedness that keeps them from going anywhere. We beat a really good team on the road banged up. We also were without very significant pieces the next week and were a fumble away from beating the eventual super bowl champs on the road. I'm not saying we're the best team in the league by any means, but we are incredibly talented and definitely have a good enough team to go all the way with a piece or two added.

We have an elite QB, the best WR in the league, an all pro RB, a good offensive line, and a solid front 7 on D. We could use a little pass rush and some secondary help, but it's not like we're miles away. If this roster isn't that close, then idk how we can get close in your opinion.

Well the Panthers lost to a bad Atlanta team on a half season losing skid, the Pats lost to the train wreck Eagles and then the Dolphins not that long after that. The Broncos lost to the colts and the Raiders (although they were better this year).

The point is every team loses a game or two they probably shouldn't. One of those games we had Mike Vick at QB too, so it's much harder to get upset about losing that game (despite giving the game away at the end).

To blame the coach over a loss or two against a bad team isn't the best way to approach things. Does Bellichick get railed for losing to the Dolphins once every year. Or a bad Chiefs team last year, a bad Cardinals team at home the year before? No. He doesn't. Tomlin's record against bad teams is worse than BB, but since this years team was really the only good team we've had since we lost to Tebow.

Settling as there was no real urgency to put up 7. They seemed content with getting 3 and maintaining the lead which works if Tomlins guy doesn't fumble.

Not mad at all. Denver deserved to win it all. We did everything in our power to get someone to back up DWill and Toussaint came out ready to play. He performed as well as you'd imagine a guy not on a roster until the second half of the season could do. There wasn't a single guy left on the street or on another teams PS that I would've expected to play better than Toussaint/Todman did.

A possible scenario then would have us beating Denver and losing to NE. Then possibly NE goes on to win the Super Bowl.

I'd rather eat my lucky underwear that I finally took off.

I think Pierre Thomas or Steven Jackson make the same plays and don't fumble.

This was suppose to be the year you got to enjoy the Steelers beating the Patriots in the AFC Champ Game. Patriots will never be this weak of a team ever again. Tomlin robbed you of this glorious moment almost 3 months ago when LeVeon Bell got injured for the season and he decided screw it. I'm just going to run the veteran into the ground because it would be too much work to find a back-up for him just in case he gets injured. Get mad, get really mad because I know I am.
