Williams was never our pick if Golson was there according to Dulac. I brushed it off when Colbert said Golson was our pick if he was there but Dulac heard from his sources the Steelers were trying to trade up to ensure they got a cornerthe night before the second round. So all that what a knee jerk pick and the Ravens screwed us and Ozzie is the better GM stuff was over nothing.

You may very well be right, but we will never know. Dulac would not have any information before the draft. After it he just got the Steelers line. What else are Colbert, et al going to say?

Really would be a great trick to get the Ravens to trade up thinking they were after a TE!

Likewise that the reports that we were going to pick Williams has no credibility. Steelers are incredibly tightlipped about this stuff.

As I said before, they picked Golson over Rollins who most feel is a better prospect, leads me to believe that Golson was there guy all along or maybe they were trying to trade up for Rowe. I personally don't think they were going to take Williams with our need for CB's. This was a weak TE class that Williams just happened to be the best of, hardly a must have TE prospect.

I don't care who we wanted. Williams isn't special enough to lose any sleep over at a position that we're fine at.

So, my sources are Kevin Colbert and logic.

Who are the sources touting this Maxx Williams crap? Someone Adam Schefter may or may not know? Who?

Yea Colbert said some team,( he didn't say which) was asking for a 5th rnd pic for us to move up. he said the he felt the price was to high.... Kinda makes me think they didnt want him that bad not to give a 5th.

Anyone hear any comments on the rumors that we were trying to trade up to the first pick in the 2nd round, the one the Giants traded Tennessee for? The live guys were saying Pittsburgh was one of the teams looking to trade with Tenn. I didn't listen the whole time, and never heard anything else about who we may have been trading up for..... or if it was just smoke screen???

The rats had a big need at TE and in the mold of Todd Heap, MW fit that bill, with Pitta out with hip injuries all the time they had to fill that need, if anyone could have screwed us in the draft it could have been the bengals with the cards trying to trade spots with them at 21 so the cards could draft Dupree, if the bengals made that trade then you would have something to complain about, but we weren't desperate to get a TE because heath miller still has a couple of years left in his tank...

Exactly and the IMO the Steelers would be very hesitant on drafting a TE that high that I believe one of his cons was blocking

Actually, with the steeler defense ranked 18th in total defense, needing pass rush and secondary help why would they blow draft picks to trade up for a tight end?

i still don't understand the bungles .. they choose obueghi at 21 and they didn't trade down with the cards that were looking at dupree .. they would have killed us and draft obueghi 4 spot later .. the only explanations i can have ..well they are the bungles

Maybe they were really high on their guy and thought he'd be gone if they traded back?

Or someone could love the same guy and trade up in front of your new pick (at lesser cost) to take him in front of you haha the more you trade back, the more likely you are to get burned. If you like a guy enough at 24 to take him, then why not just take him at 21 and avoid messing around.

besides, they had no way of knowing Dupree was our number one guy anyways. It's tough to guess on the make up of other team's draft boards.

According to Bouchette today, we stole their pick, they wanted Dupree.

So, according to the media buzz, we stole the Rats first round choice, and they stole our 2nd round choice. Not for nothing, but one of these GM's is chuckling behind closed doors right now... but rest assured, we'll never know who got the best of who.

Doesn't really matter much now anyway... is training camp here yet?

New rumor out there now is that the Panthers negiotiated with the Rams in front of us for pick # 9 in the second round. They took Devin Funchess and we were targeting CB Jalen Collins. Supposedly, we had an offer and the Panthers uped the ante.

Who know's the validity of such reports though.

My two cents: I just don't see how the Steelers would be willing to trade up for the guy and he wasn't even brought in for a pre-draft visit. The guy started 10 games in his career and had recent foot surgery. Did they put him in front of some film to gauge his football IQ and see why the limited starts? Did they get a good medical check on his foot? But they took him out to dinner on the eve of his pro day, so maybe all that was discussed over quesadillas.

Squeelers got a good pass rusher in Dupree whom Ozzie liked but Oz countered
and got the guy who made Dupree go - Z. Smith. He could rush from the los but
was more dangerous setting up the edge fro OLB and took up blockers which freed up
Dupree. Now he'll be freeing up the Ravens linemen.

BTW, his original game was basketball until he got to the AAU and went vs 7 footers
which reduced his rebounds. He went home and told his mom he was taking up
    football.

Man, talk about talent and Ravens have so much depth with pass rushers like Brandon,
Jernigan, Z. Smith, Carl Davis, Suggs, D. Smith, MOsley, and Dooooom.

    ps

While Squeelers snatched Dupree from Ozzie, he stole Maxx from them. They were desperate
because their guy is old and wanted Maxx but Oz traded up and grabbed him.

Another guy they wanted was Carl Davis whom Oz got in the 3rd round. Kiper had him ranked
#32 on his big board and Ravens got him in the 3rd round. Squeelers fans are pissed.

That makes no sense. How did Smith free Dupree up and go all the way in the Fourth round?

    I'm calling homer glasses....

Yup.. If there is no need I think it would be a big mistake to draft a player you don't need to stop your opponent from getting the guy they want.

The Ravens had been hurting TS [the Steelers] bad the past several years with TE's. Pitta then Daniels last year. Believe it or not I think their pickup of Williams will benefit TS. Anyway, TS got the TE they wanted and he was also my choice of the TE's. btw: I know these early things are not too defining, but has anyone heard anything about Jesse James in these early camps? Is he showing up?
