Cromartie and Browner cudve been nice additions instead we pass on them and actually lose McCain. I fear we will be in the same boat as last year when it comes to defense. No corners and no pass rush once again

Yep, might as well fold the team.

Yea, but they spend time bringing in a 32-year old RB who has been hurt most of the last 2-3 years. Genius, Aaa?

They should have at least entertained the idea of bringing Frank Gore here. Talk about a 2 headed monster running attack with Bell and Gore. But yea, the Steelers are cheap. Offense is less of a concern than the defense but I'm used to having crappy CB's and lately overrated safety's.

Would it have made you feel better to sign a 30 year old Browner (overrated IMO) 6 million a year to play for us? Or a 31 year old Cromartie 8 million a year? I wouldn't have. Yeah, they are good players... but those are BAD contracts. It's really starting to look like the plan is to draft OLB and CB early in the draft this year.

losing McCain won't hurt us really. Sure, he filled in well for us last season, but he's a freaking back up nickel back. People need to relax. We tendered Blake and still have Webb on the roster, so we have plenty of depth. Now we need to go draft the guy who will be a stud for us, because we don't lack depth corners... We lack a stud corner.

I also kinda agree that the defense won't change a whole lot in terms of the players involved. We have a new DC, so it is possible that he improves our D schematically. Maybe one or more of the rookies contribute in a real way. Maybe JJ, Tuitt, and Shazier elevate their play considerably. Shamarko too. He'll, maybe even Cortez finds some confidence lol There are so many other variables beside over-paying a new guy to play for us that could make our defense better than it was last season.

This is an amusing time of the year. A lot of fans complain because we didn't make any moves, but we never make any moves. Oh except last year and those moves were...well that dead horse has been beaten enough. I agree that we have a lot of holes, but they are the same holes we've had the last couple. The exciting part is we get to fill them with young and mostly unknown players which, in my opinion is far more exciting than aging veterans.

Aside from last season where he saw action in only six games, he is credited to have played in 47 of the 48 games over the course of the three prior seasons... Having started in 40 of those games. That one game missed was likely getting rested the final regular season game when they had their division (and first round bye) locked up in 2013. He averaged 4.6 YPC during that span with 18 touchdowns (15 rushing).

He isn't a bad back. I'm sure he will get a two year deal, but in all reality should only be on our team for one season. Gotta have someone fill the void until Harris and/or possibly a new rookie can handle the full time back up duties. I wouldn't be at all upset if that guy is Williams.

Williams is a completely qualified RB from a talent stand point, the injuries are the red flag but given that we are talking about a back up and not a starter, I'm leaning towards it being a good signing if they end up doing so. I like the guy BFT threw out there, Thomas, I dont know much about him but just going by what others said, sounds like he might be the better choice, money not withstanding, he may cost more, dont know.

Our best move last year was landing a great offensive line coach.

Maybe this year our best offseason move will be changing defensive coordinators. No disrespect meant to Dick Lebeau and what he meant to this team and to Pittsburgh but maybe it was just time.

Problem is Colbert is walking around with blinders on scratching his balls and telling you our D is not that bad....we have young talent.....we like our personnel....the pieces are falling into place. Really....Really it's a joke. No pass rush, no corners, no safeties. But we like our personnel....we have young talent... keep telling people that. Maybe one day it will be true. Oooooo I forgot a Colbert line "we like to build through the draft". Yes that's great....but it take defensive players 3 to 4 years to hit there stride. The problem with that is your franchise QB has a window of maybe 5 good years left!!!!!! Then what..... find another franchise QB? We all know they don't come a dime a dozen. Like I said WHAT A JOKE.

maybe the plan is take a full draft of defensive player let them battle in camp wait if a good veteran will be available cheap in august , then after one year of training (i don't think we are contenders next year (schedule and roster not in our favour and too many pieces and no money for the defense) with more cap space hope a be tter team will be place on the field in 2016

I think he knows there is a problem on defense. Especially with the CB and OLB spots. He definitely wants to address that before next year.

That article is carp...famous Colbert line "we're worried about it today. I feel comfortable we'll be fine come August" WHAT!! He has no one to fill the holes with...what the hell is he talking about. Harrison is not the answer, Moats is a good rotation player and Jones hasn't proven anything yet. His golden boy Allen got benched last year and he has no other starting CB. Not to mention the safeties are a mess. Colbert dug himself a hole he can't get out of.

I don't think they are going to panic. forget why didn't this guy play last year and all of that but we have some, how will I say seasoned draft picks sitting here already. not green first year guys but guys with a lot of time under their belt getting familiar. let's look:

    gay
    allen
    blake
webb has seen the field in the NFL. has a season here learning this defense some. more knowledge than a green rookie anyway.
fogg has some time in CFL and has been here a short while picking up some knowledge. again not totally green.
    lets look at some safety:
    Mitchell
    Thomas
    golden
ventrone has been around here a couple of years now.
Dangerfield has also been hanging around a little while. these two should be somewhat familiar with our defensive schemes.
lewis has been around an NFL camp, so hopefully has some better understanding than a green rookie. he was quite good at mich.st..
darby also has a season under his belt and was also pretty good in college. again a little more than a green rookie.
wild I don't know much about but again not a wide eyed green rookie.

anywho, I don't think the cupboard is that bare to the point we need to flood our team with safety and corner picks. more of the quality over quanity approach may be what is needed and some of these guys act as seasoned draft picks for us. this is my thinking anyway. I also think we can look at this with DE and OLB too with who we have coming to camp. maybe I'm not giving Colbert enough due in playing the free agency/ draft with some quality futures players getting by that first and second year learning curve.

Blake is primarily a special teamer. He's a #4 CB at best.

If he starts, he'll get torched for a dozen TDs. And no, I'm not exaggerating for effect.
