Why the hell is Cam Thomas still on the Team . Is he Mike Tomlins off season butler ? Is he scheduled to be the head cook at camp ? Does he taxi the scouts to the airport ?

I need some info as to why he is still on the Team . No way can it be as a Football Player .

I'm as puzzled as anyone. We can save $2 million by cutting him and there's no pre/post June 1 issue. It's the easiest $2 million decision to make this offseason. There are times when fans unfairly turn a player into a whipping boy (Foote & Gay are good examples). This is NOT one of this times. He's awful, and I wouldn't want him on the roster at the vet minimum.

This is puzzling. With talk of Polamalu not wanted back on the team it almost pains me to know that there is no indication that Thomas is on his way out. He brings zero value. Bring up Hemer, or Kruger, or sign Geathers again if depth is an issue. Cam Thomas should not be in the NFL.

Yes it is a mystery why this tub of lard turn style is still on the roster.

I don't get it either....but the fact that he is still on the team gives me hope that if I can put on around 100 lbs from now to camp ,I would have just as much of a chance of actually making a play as he does.

I listened in on a SteelersDepot podcast yesterday and they said it probably has a lot to do with not having any real backups on the D Line. The loss of those practice squad players like Nick Williams kept them pretty thin so they need Cam as an insurance policy.

That is one area where I think the Steelers deserve some criticism. If that were the Patriots they would have cut Thomas during the season and either signed someone else or brought up someone from the practice squad. They basically would have said how much worse can someone do?

The Steelers almost always take the conservative approach and think well he has experience, we can't turn things over to a greenhorn, but when your free agent is normally manhandled, does nothing isn't better paying a greenhorn $300K to get manhandled rather than paying Thomas $2M to get manhandled. Cut your losses and move on.

    This x 1,000,000.

Maybe some of those perplexing moves (or non-moves) will end with Butler as DC. One can only hope. We lost promising young guys because we held on to worthless Thomas.

I agree with you guys. They could have put literally anyone in there to get shoved back five yards and spent less money.

Could have, should have, would have doesn't matter at the moment. They shouldn't cut him until we have someone to replace him. With that said, between now and the end of camp, we will have a lot of opportunities to replace him.

But that's the point. We CAN cut him now because we can literally replace him with TheSteelDeal, assuming he can put on 100 lbs prior to training camp.

I suspect that this is the answer. They will only cut him once they find a replacement ... if at all.

    Sign TheSteelDeal immediately!

Hopefully we pick up an FA or two and that gets rid of Thomas. I'm still fearing that we keep him on, though. As I recall, we kept Justin Hartwig and Sean Mahan around for more than a year...

Probably. However, if they need the money to sign someone else that could make a solid contribution they should be prepared to make the cut sooner. He won't be difficult to replace.
