Considering he had the best statistic year ever and we've got very young weapons at WR and RB, I don't think so. For once, the offense was considered the strong part of this team. The defense needs a lot of help everywhere.

I don't think so. It hurts losing like this but this team has a bright future.

Why? Do they have a replacement?

No, they don't, so extend him.

Why would it. Just because of the lose tonight. The whole team did not play well. The defense was lousy.

I think it's part of the negotiations, but he doesn't see the door because of it. I have always been a let Ben walk guy and rebuild, but after watching the QB play in the Car/AZ game, I say forget it. Sign him, be competitive for a few years the deal with the next decade of decline later.

    No.

Unless he decides to give them a sweetheart deal to shore up other areas of the team.

No, get ready for the big one. This should be interesting. Hopefully we will have enough left (cap space)to improve our team.

My initial thought is that we certainly need to extend him, and if that means paying him the market rate for a franchise QB, so be it. It doesn't have to be this year though. He has 1 year left on his contract, and the team has the ability to franchise him for 2 years after that. I'm not saying we should go that route, but it does provide the team with some leverage to get a deal done that works for both parties (again, probably at the going market rate for a franchise QB).

I guess I can make a devil's advocate argument that I personally don't agree with that now is the time to cut ties. After this season, his trade value is as high as it will ever be. Could Tampa be willing to trade the #1 overall pick plus some other sweeteners for Ben this offseason? Lovie Smith wants to win now in a WEAK division that's ripe for the taking, and he has 2 bona-fide deep threat big WRs that Ben could play bombs away with all day. Is it time to try and work a deal like that, and if successful use that #1 overall pick on Mariota and believe that he is the next franchise QB? I think no, but it's not the most far fetched scenario in the world either - certainly for those who think we need to hit the reset button and start a full rebuild (which I DO NOT).

Agree. Ben is a top flite, franchise quarterback who needs to be extended. But Omar the Wiz needs to figure out how to do it in a cap friendly way. His signing can't decimate the rest of our team.

Consider our FA signings vs Baltimore's:
    WR: DHB vs Steve Smith.
DL: Cam Thomas vs Chris Canty.
LB: Arthur Moats vs Elvis Dummerville.
    S: Mitchell vs W. Hill.
    TE: Nobody vs Owen Daniels.
And Ozzie did this after signing Flacco to a big contract. What will our depth chart look like after Ben's contract is done?

I say extend him and he's more than earned that this season (overall). That said, we have got to start figuring out what the next QB of this team is going to look like. We don't have a viable option right now, haven't in years behind Ben. I'd like to keep Ben as long as he's productive, but I am more and more frustrated by our lack of looking to the future once he's gone.

With the exception of Larry Brown, one game does not affect a contract.

Ben's the best QB in the league between the 20's. How many games this year started out with nice drives that ended in field goals to keep the other team in the game? They'll resign him because it's hard to find a good QB let alone a great one.

I don't think I'd make that deal if I'm Tampa's GM. Roll the dice with Mariota.
