Admit the mistake and move on, his play hasn't gotten any better during the season. And to think he was the big free agent signing . Does anybody know the salary cap hit of releasing him?

I haven't been a fan of Mitchell this season but Clark sucked his first year here too. So no, I don't think they should release him. We also may have a new DC next year so if it's difficulty with learning scheme, that won't be an obstacle next year and if DL stays, Mitchell should be better with a year under his belt in that system.

I don't think they should release him at the end of the season either. I think they should release him on Saturday. :dancing: He sucks.

No way we're gonna release him at the end of the season. Part of the problem is that Troy is such a different player to play with already, and on top of that Troy has been pretty poor this season. He's had a lot asked of him in his first season here. I do think he is on a "prove it" year next year tho. If he fails again, then he could be gone. With Troy possibly done at the end of the year, we wont turn over both starting safety spots in the same off-season.

Other than sucking, my problem with Mitchell is that he doesn't look like he cares. He is collecting/stealing a paycheck.

Nope. We need to re-tool our DB's, not purge them. He's proven he can be successful so let's keep him around until we have the shed a little bit more stocked. If he still underwhelms this time next year, then yeah, let's talk about cutting the cord. Now isn't a good time.

All games won hereafter are an improvement over last year. I say no. But, say they win the superbowl, do you still want to get rid of him then?

You have to almost look at him like a rookie. If he sucks next year cut him but he is still learning and I believe this is the first 3-4 defense he has played in.

In the beginning of the season he was one of the only guys on D hitting hard.
Haven't seen a big tackle/hit in a while from him.

from salary stand point releasing mitchell make no sense he will cost 3 milion more than keep him , cortez allen is the big elephant in the room , at the end of february basically they will have to choose if give him another 6 milion ( 3m roster bonus in march)for the next season while release him could save 1,5 milion

I don't remember the exact numbers, but there is little guaranteed money. I believe it's essentially a two year contract. After next year, we can get out easily.

Between that, and the idea that he might just need more time, I'm willing to give him another year. It's not like there's anyone sitting behind him that should be on the field in his place. This isn't Cam Thomas starting over Stephon Tuitt. I don't think Golden or Allen would be any better.

I do want to draft a FS in the early-mid rounds this year, though.

thinking about i believe they have no choice .. 6 milion after what we saw on the field this season ...??

is pretty evident they thought to have something while even if he rebounds is not nowhere near that .. he will be lucky to find a roster place next season ...

Get the front 7 performing well on a consistent basis and the DB's will sudden;y become a lot better.

Another year your not going to see Mitchell get better. It's not the scheme he doesn't have the talent..... He is not good in space, takes bad angles , doesn't play the ball well, never in the right spot. How many interceptions does he have? The only thing he does okay is kinda hits hard.

If he cost too much to get rid of then okay, but make him a back up for next year. He was a signing mistake, same as Thomas..

Thomas was a mistake, Mitchel has shown he can play at a high level. DB is one of the hardest positions to learn under LeBeau.

Again not a scheme thing, something's you never learn no matter how long you play. Similar to Ike will never be able to catch no mmatter how long he plays. He has too many issues one of the main things is he has no ball awareness when it's in the air. Something you need from a safety. The good safeties have this like Ed Reed and Troy in his prime. Mitchell does not come close.

Had a good year in Carolina, I don't believe in making excuses for when people do well, see it all the time, we won the SB in spite of BA, Tomlin won with Cowhers players, Wallace did well because he had Ben, insert whatever reason for Mitchell having a good season in Carolina.

Have to agree to disagree. I attribute it to his first year being here learning a tough system and adjusting to a freelance player like Troy. If he tanks next year, I'll believe it's a bad signing and we will get to find out because he will be here for sure. Clark had a bad first season too, he turned out alright.

I wonder too, how much Mitchell has looked bad, simply because he's asked to cover the whole field with Troy playing out of position? Troy just doesn't have what he used to, the Steelers also don't have as good CB's as they used to, in order to make that work. I expect Mitchell to be back.

I don't think it is fair to put too much blame on Mitchell. Both projected starters at corner basically haven't played all year. In addition, he is learning a new system and learning to play with Troy.

Personally I think Mitchell is horrible and he is a significant cause of the problems at CB. He doesn't provide the top support he should.
