Do we consider given Michael Sam a shot on our practice squad?

I like Moats. Moats should push Jarvis for playing time imo. Only place I could see Sam playing is LOLB. Dont know if he could do it. I wouldnt bring him in seeing as how good players are already being dropped from the practice squad.

It would be nice to be the change you wish to see in the world.

If we ran a 4-3, we'd be fools not to bring him in for the PS. I'd like to be a fan of the team that takes on the media circus, because it's the only way the uncalled for media circuses will go away. It's the right thing to do, and it's unfair for Sam to be stiffed by god knows how many teams because of the way this country treats gay people (either hate, or a disproportionate amount of attention paid - very few people are both okay with it and already over it).

It's no secret the NFL and other major sports are full of gay men. Of course they are. It's statistics. So why aren't they out in the open? Because it would hurt them personally to be so, and potentially ending your own career is a pretty big sacrifice with non-guaranteed returns from society. Even straight athletes that advocate for gay rights have been turned on. those two things are BS, and the only way it will go away is by teams saying, "Forget the media, he's good enough for a PS spot and has potential to have an impact next year, so I'm putting him on the PS." Next thing you know (okay, maybe 30 years later) it's no big deal. All the media circus around Clowney this year, and I don't remember any of it being because he's black. The league's homophobia will get better, but only if it makes an effort. Sending guys to Canada Warren Moon-style isn't the answer. To me, that's what's happening to Sam, albeit on a much smaller scale because I don't see him as a Hall of Famer.

Thank you, Mr. (or Ms. or Mrs. or Miss) Moderator. I don't know what was said, and I don't care. I appreciate the moderator stepping in.

Should the Steelers take a shot at Sam? Why not? I think Sam's talent is probably borderline. But I see something that has me intrigued.....he has heart. God knows this Steeler defense could use some heart, and we know that the Steeler defense is the heart of the team.

I say give him a shot. What do we have to lose, other than the next 9 games?

No. His sexual preference has zero to do with it. The Tebow effect has zero to do with it. The Media supports and uplifts the gays but mocks the Christain. Distraction is not a factor for Sam.

It comes down to his skillset. It doesn't fit our scheme. He's too slow and weak and not "quick" enough to play OLB in our 3-4 Base. He's not big or strong enough for our Nickel/subpackages either. If we played a 4-3 do any of you guys think he really is a solid 4-3 DE? I don't. A typical 4-3 DE is taller and faster. To me his best shot is to get stronger and move inside for a 4-3 scheme and we already have enough of those types on this team.

I watched quite a bit of Michael Sam when looking at draft prospects this offseason, and I didn't see any potential to play in space at all. He was a nice straight ahead pass rusher, but keep in mind that he did quite a bit of his best work against right tackles and played opposite Kony Ealy who was more of a threat. I have nothing against the Michael Sam the person, but I don't like Michael Sam the football player for a 3-4 defense. If we ran a 4-3 I might have a different view.

THANK you!! I've been saying it for years - when are Christians going to start getting all the breaks and preferential treatment that gays have been getting?? Sam wouldn't even sniffed the NFL if he hadn't been so uplifted by the media. He's lucky he even made a practice squad!

That seems to be the consensus. The question is, with so many 4-3 teams still in the league, did that defensive player of the year really just flunk out of the NFL based on his level of talent alone? I don't think so.
