We've talked about this here and there, but I thought it'd be interesting to see some numbers. Who makes the 53 this year? Assuming the last available receiver helmet comes down to Derek Moye or Justin Brown.

This early on, I think throwing DHB into the conversation is realistic. In my opinion, Brown and DHB are ahead of Moye. Maybe only one of the three makes it, or maybe two.

But either way, I think Moye's out, so I'm taking Brown in this poll.

tough call. way too early to speculate. I thought JD woods would have at least made the PS last year. a lot could depend on Bryant and how fast he catches on.

I think they both make it and DHB is the odd man out.

DHB is a special teams ace and we have a history of keeping a guy or two for that reason only and I think that is why DHb makes the team.

I think JB will continue to impress once training camp gets here, he almost beat out Moye last year, I think he does this time. I think the only way Moye makes it is if they cut DHB and somebody posted that usually does not happen with Colberts FA moves.

I can't possibly answer until I see them in a real game situation.

Ask me 3rd week of August. ;)

Exactly which is why I went with Moye, that may change mid preseason time but not much to go off of at the moment

I wouldn't be surprised if DHB doesn't make the team.

who can be a deep threat on game day? so much depends on Bryant showing he can be. that alone could open up a spot for a guy like JB who won't be burning anyone deep in this league. AB isn't the fastest guy. he's quick, but on a consistent basis, he's not going to get a step or two on the defense deep. moore isn't really a deep threat either. that alone is 3 guys that are not that consistent threat over the top. short to midrange guys.

leaves wheaton if he can stay on the field weekly.

Bryant if he can learn quick enough, even in limited packages to start. his size alone allows ben to not have to put it right on the money. something he doesn't do on a consistent basis with the deep throw. with our shorter receivers, ben has to drop it in the bucket. Bryant can eliminate some of that.

DHB has the speed to take the top off, has some size, but really only brings that dimension to the team. with AB double covered though, that would leave DHB one on one which is his thing.

moye, he's got pretty good speed, size, and hustle always. hasn't really been used as a deep threat yet, but also has that shorter game, which makes him pretty well rounded if he can show that deep threat part of his game. he is also the biggest target we have at wr.

with all the talk of using the RB's as wr's at times too, the need for these guys diminish that much more. they may make the team but will they even be activated on game day? with archer and bell able to jump outside and blount in the backfield while one of those two are still on the field, I just don't see where there will be room for any of the other wr's except for Bryant, moore, AB or wheaton on game day. I think it comes down to Bryant. he's got the talent.

JB,DHB,moye might get a spot but won't likely get a helmet. so who out of these 3 gives you a better overall game in case of an injury?

JB- 2nd season here. some hgt. good blocker. only medium to short range receiver. good hands. lacks speed. punt return ability.

DHB- 1st season here, but a league vet as a starter. speed, some size, blocking ok, mostly a deep threat. not a real short game and mid range is limited. hands I believe are iffy because of alligator arming short and midrange throws. he's not going over the middle to make a tough catch.

MOYE- 2nd season here. 3rd year in NFL. made roster last year. can be used in the RZ and as a medium and short game player. good hands. has size. blocks well. has the speed with hgt. to get deep if he shows that.

each guy has strengths. some have limits. to me and on paper mainly, moye has a bigger all around game than the other two, if there is an injury. mostly depending on it being a short term injury or a long term injury.

sure there has been talk of JB in the OTA's. that's great, but let's not forget Richard mann is a sly old dog that may be using his praise of JB also as motivation. not only for JB, but for moye and DHB. wouldn't that make those two work that much harder, which I think is manns goal. similar to tomlin on the butt of Bryant so far. it's not lack of work ethic, it's all motivational.

let's not forget some other guys in camp that may impress in the preseason.

DHB is fast, but he's hardly a deep threat. Before last season he had all of 11 passes that traveled over 20 yards(in four seasons). On top of that his hands are horrible. People around here whine about Sanders? They're going to go postal when DHB drops 10 balls in a season.

I seriously doubt Bryant is going to factor in very much this year, they are going to want someone more seasoned.

ever thought about why? before last season he was with Oakland and their passing game wasn't up to many more than that. qb wise and protection wise. coaching changes. qb changes. he was also the #1 receiver getting more double coverage that he won't get here and if he does that leaves our #1 with single coverage and i'll take that any day.

he's best outside the numbers. that big hit he took in Oakland rung his bell and he's been gun shy about the middle if you ask me. he's best one on one with space. we throw deep more and more, just because they didn't in Oakland doesn't mean he's not a deep threat. how many was he targeted over 20 yards? if he caught 11, he's about a 50% in catching vs. targeting, so let's say 22 targets and half the catches over 20 yards.

What's your excuse for him in 2013? He wasn't a #1 in indy and managed two receptions over 20 yards(23 and 27) and 9 drops. The only way he makes the team is if injuries hit the wide receivers.

I was a big supporter of Moye last season, and think he should have seen more of the field (we went with crazy few receivers last year).

That said, I've voted for Brown - not personal decision, more who I think will make the team at the moment. Though as Ray D says, we can answer again after a few preseason games.

new team, new coach, new qb, new system, hamstring injury, benching. just saying he brings that element if the staff wants that. I'm by no means making excuses for him. I'm just stating what he brings to the table as an option.

Let me get this straight. The reasons he sucked in Indy are , new team, new coach, new system blah blah blah and despite being in the exact same situation this year he's suddenly going to put up numbers better than his career totals. Nah you're not making excuses just pulling crap out of your backside.

I could see them using Bryant in certain packages like third and long also redzone situations, and Bryant would be matched up against the opponents 3rd or 4th best CB advantage Bryant if he shows he's capable in training camp and preseason.

  20. I'd take that bet. DHB doesn't make the 53 imo, his game hasnt changed from the time he was playing with the terps. I do think that Mauro, the ufa DE from Stanford makes the cut. Agree with Snack though, that Brown will make the squad and be a player.

did I say he's going to put up better numbers than his career totals? that's all you.

why the heck do you think with all the talent we have right now this stupid front office and coaching staff even signed him. they must be total idiots and didn't talk to you first. what do YOU think they were thinking? you seem to have all the answers. why did they bring such a useless guy in to play with no chance of helping the team?

4.25 speed just doesn't happen. look at his numbers against 4 man fronts and even better with blitzers in 3 wr formations. that's when he has the most TD's and catches, mostly because he's lined up one on one in those scenario's , so no not pulling stuff out of my backside.

This is what i'm looking forward to tbh. If he does get those match ups he should have a big advantage. And if he starts to draw more attention then that will open up more opportunities for guys like AB.

With a guy his size and with his speed defenses will have to take notice. Let's just hope MT stays on him. :)

    JB in the poll. ;)

I think the philosophy of this team is changing. They really drafted best athletes this year instead of best players. I say Moye makes the team and JB is out because he is too slow. AB and Moore are our skill guys, the rest of the WR crew will be put in to create matchup problems.
