But is it Colbert's fault that the talent he drafted wasn't resigned when their second contract came? I guess thats up for debate. You're right they can't technically be called facts. Look at it this way for a moment. 32 teams get together every year to draft new players out of college they all miss frequently every year..all of them..It seems to be a consensus that if you come out of the draft with about 3 players that are successful and help your team throughout their career it's a success. No team drafts 7 great picks, no team drafts even 4 or 5 players in one draft that stick with the team forever and become multiple pro bowlers at the same time.

To me it is very evident that Colbert is one of the best! If you look at all his drafts with 2008 excluded. He has produced multiple players from ever one that are great for us or are still playing for other teams, Ziggy was disappointing but for being the 32nd pick in the 1st round he's not that disappointing and when he became a free agent other teams came knocking..my point is he's not a BUST he has talent.

Colberts job is to bring in talent...and other that 2008 he really has never failed to do that.

Also, The NFL's history from conception until right now is littered with 1st round picks that were out of the league by the time their second contract came up ( 3-5 years) or at best were career backups.

To my knowledge Colbert has never taken a 1st rounder that didn't stick in the league, so he has that going for him.

You won't convince Mac, and you don't have to, everyone is entitled to their opinion, I've gone rounds and rounds with him :lolol:

Colberts colleagues though believe him to be one of the best in the business and of course his resume speaks for itself, yes he's had misses, every GM does but not every GM has reached 3 SB's and winning two of them in their careers. These things are facts.

I posted this link in another thread earlier in the week, think you'll enjoy the article.

my disappointment with the pick has nothing to do with Shazier as a player or the fact that he can play ILB. it has everything to do with the fact that the Steelers simply have more depth at LB than at other positions of need (CB, for example). they could have definitely used another key LB, sure. however, they NEED a key CB right now.

also, benwallace17: insulting posters isn't a good way to get across your points.

I know, but if you look I wasn't wrong, people here over reacted badly....and in doing so said some things that made them look uninformed. But I didn't insult anyone by name, still could have been done better.

The more I think about it, I think it's just a matter of this: Fans want to draft the guy that looks good...where as teams try to draft the players that are good and fit their system. You can clamor for Dennard all you want. He grabs way to much and when you watch him you realize that him being a GREAT CB prospect was created by the media..he is not exceptional at all.

I'll make the prediction right here and stand by it all the way that in the years to come we will barley remember Dennard...because it really doesn't look to me that he will be very good. Whether we are happy with Ryan by that time is another debate, but I highly doubt we'll be saying Dennard was the one that got away.

You are right, making people be accountable for the knee jerk reactionary things they proclaim can make you unpopular............oh well

Calling a bunch of people stupid for expressing their opinion is hardly making them accountable.

You're right it was reactionary as well. I could have worded it differently because I meant to get across that I was more surprised by the extreme negative reaction at first. Coupled with the prevailing thought that he would play OLB when I figured all the fans on here would realize he'd play inside.

But I apologize for offending anyone, I just love the steelers like the rest of us. I mean in the end I could choose just not to come here to read all your opinions, but I've been doing it since this site was created because I like getting input from the true steelers fans...and ones that I trust. A lot of the things said that rubbed me the wrong way were from usernames I don't recognize as frequent posters. So it could have been from the type that just jump on here after the steelers do something to complain or complement the move and then disappear for awhile.

I just hate hearing people bash and go all dreadfully negative, when they don't seem to have a grasp of the situation. Had the steelers taken someone that was clearly intended to play OLB I'd be the one questioning them heavily, but that's not the case. To truly think there's steeler fans out there that think the steelers would take J. Jones and then turn around the next year and draft his replacement in the first round.....just don't seem to understand the steelers at all....they would never do that...it's a very stupid move...and the steelers aren't stupid which is what I'm trying to point out.

If you think they would do that, you clearly have very little belief in them and the abilities

Without doing a poll, Id have to say there were more in favor of the pick then against, I can only think of about 3 people who hated it. But they made a lot of noise hating it :lolol:

Passion can get the best of people sometimes and lead to over reactions. How often do they draft who we think they should? Not very. It's way too early to know if any of the draftees are good picks. #1's have flopped and 7th rounders have shined, you just never know.

I would of tried to trade down or pick Mosely. But, I don't do this for living and know what all the scouts knows. They could of tried to trade down, all though, considering how fast they picked, I doubt it. I'm a Buckeye fan, so I'm ok with the pick. I think he is too short to play LOLB, but he can help out a lot covering TE's,freeing up Troy more.

    Hmmm....:hmmm:
I can think of ONE team that did that... Arguably even did it twice, roughly 40+ years ago....
Does your immense football knowledge, allow you to hazard a guess, who that might be?

    JUST KIDDING!:roflmao:LOL...
I take no offense to your original post, but IF you are gonna call yourself an expert, and others, inferior, people will naturally pounce upon any percieved mistake, or flaw in your "logic"...
It`s all good to me. I love the variety on this board, and know I am certainly no expert, but I love my team, just like anyone else who takes the time to post here!

Hurtin, I just wanna know where your signature line comes from... "Blazing Saddles", maybe?
Reminds me of an old Alex Bevan song... "Skinny little boy from Cleveland Ohio"...
    The line was,
"I`ve come to drink your women, and steal your beer"...

ziggy has talent at a certain position. that position was not 3-4 DE. it's not just finding talent that's the easy part my friend, it's drafting that talent that fits your team. yes KC is responsible for guys leaving he is the GM not omar. omar makes the numbers work. my biggest hang up may be all the years he's picked O-linemen or who he thinks is good enough when we have a QB like ben. more stock should have been taken to protect that investment. no harm no foul my friend, here's to better drafts. we need it.:smiley1::cool:

Not that I hated who we picked, its that I think even just a solid corner would do 100x more for this team than even an amazing linebacker can. The position has been like the worst on our team for so damn long and year after year I watch these guys go to our competitors while we draft this revolving door of DEs and LBs.... its extremely frustrating.

I'd much rather have a conversation with someone who is uninformed than someone who is a complete dick.

There are a lot of football fans who are uninformed, that doesn't make them any less of a fan

You can try and justify these picks all you want it doesn't change the fact that our db's got burnt last year and couldn't get an int to save their life. When are we planning on replacing Ike? Or are we planning on rolling him out in his wheelchair next season. It's time to check in with reality, WE NEED A SHUTDOWN CORNER. Dri Archer? Seriously? He's a fumble machine. We had an opportunity in rd 3, Pierre Desir anyone? Potential like crazy and height to go with it among other things. Colbert and Tomlin are lost and we have forgotten how to draft.

Exactly. I wanted a CB in the first. I was not happy with our pick. I can't believe this thread is still on here actually.
