I'm on a roll. Go with it. :lolol:

I'll blame the Guinness last night. But Dirt's snubs were a thorn in my side for a while and I guess I never let it go. Let's just pretend I meant LC. ;)

Ed Bouchette, as the Pgh representative on the selection committe makes the case for Bettis.

Bettis will probably get in within a yr or two. But I'm surprised at the outrage over the fact that he has to wait. Lots of great players have to wait. Andre Reed was 2nd in receptions all-time when he retired, he had to wait 9 yrs. Marvin Harrison, who's at the top of every receiving category, is being made to wait. Excluding the old-timers, they only put in 5 guys a yr. it ain't easy to get in.

Bettis is the most productive big back ever guys over 250 lbs and he rushed for over 13,000 yds, he deserves to get in over Curtis Martin who got in last year. Also he's the sixth leading rusher in NFL history.

They should up it to 20 entrants per year. And make it 10 years before they're eligible. Might take away some of this b.s. Popularity vote crap and get some of the old timers who paved the road for all of the future prima donnas a nod before they're all dead.

Not sure about the 20 entrants, but certainly agree that eligibility should take longer.

I also think that HOF should be about influence on the game and wider culture than simply stats. Hence why longer is needed to assess their impact.

Hence also why the Bus should have got in before Curtis Martin; but I wouldn't be against both of them taking longer.

Strahan or Williams over the Bus?

    IMO, No.

    2015 will be his year

Bettis averaged 48 yards per game and 3.4 yards per carry in the postseason with 9 TD's. He only had 8 career postseason receptions for a total of 57 yards.

His playoff stats may be hindering his HOF chances.

    13,662 rushing yards,
6th all time, BTW, that's in carries and yrds, and that's a HOF Huge #
    9/1000+ seasons
Best All Time: 4 n 1 back pct
    Impressive is an understatement.

The question is when not if.

Not for nothing but isn't Hines eligible to go in next season?
That would be amazing if the could go in together! Ok back to the real world. They would never put 2 Steelers in the same year and you know Hines is gonna sit for a few years...Maybe they can both go in in 2017

Have to be retired for five years before being eligible.

I really thought Bettis would get in this year. I am still pretty certain he will eventually make it, but it has taken a lot longer than I thought it would. This also doesn't bode well for other guys on the Steelers who we think are HOFers like Ward, Roethlisberger, and Polamalu.

I honestly do not think Ward will get in - especially with the logjam of receivers. Ben still has work to do, but if he stays healthy it seems he is on his way - I still think the personal issues could hurt him though. Troy I think gets in as he and Reed are the premier safeties of their generation.
