I'd let Hood go and go with JJ,McClendon,Woods,Heyward,Worilds. Woods definitely needs some additional playing time - he was standing up double teams and getting great push with a single block.

I think the focus is now on Hood and Fangupo. Woods has found a home. See how McClendon bounces back from injury.
    Ziggy's playing for his job.

This would work out really well IMO. McLendon got pushed around too much to be our every down NT, but definitely has the motor, speed and strength to be a good DE in our system. Woods looked real nice out there tho, and deserves a good look these last two games. I wouldn't hate trying to keep Ziggy, but if we let him walk it wouldn't bother me either. The only question is how do we feel having Arnfelt and N.Williams as our back up DE's next year... If we are comfortable with this scenario, then a McLendon-Woods-Heyward line is very possible.

I think Worilds over Woodley is a no-brainer in terms of play, but the only question is our ability to afford Worlids. If we can afford him, keep him.

I'm with you TTF, I'm missing all this bad play at NT from mclendon. quite the contrary, he's been taking care of his assignments very well. I just don't get the hate for him on here and don't understand all this move to DE where he has done nothing at all.

McClendon looks and plays fine if you are assuming he is a defensive lineman, but he is no nose tackle. Woods is the best "nose tackle" option they have on the team at the moment, and it clearly showed last night.

You have to have a special skillset to be a nose-tackle. I don't think many of you realize how important Hampton was to the success of our 3-4 scheme. It is essential that the line clogs up the offensive linemen so that our linebackers can get to the QB.

I'm not saying that Woods is the answer, but we need someone more like him to be our nose-tackle and someone less like McClendon.

    you remember that time

    that time during a game
during a game where there were
there were like 2 or 3 guys in that game that time
that one game at a time when there were these guys
that were playing this game at the time and there were 2 or3 of em
and the one guy from our team got pushed away from the tackle play thingy a jig
    remember?

My comment about McLendon at DE is not a knock on him. He did ok at the NT. I just see Woods demanding a double team like Hampton used to do. Put another guy beside him that demands a double as well and that leaves Heyward with a 1-on-1 or requires a TE to help, which would free up the LBs.

it was a short yardage situation, of course he would have been double teamed. if ryan clark was on the line in that situation he would have demanded a double team too.

there are different ways to demand a double team. a quick guy inside can force a team to have to double team them also. they don't have to be a big lump like casey to be an effective NT. hoke was only 305 and was an effective NT for us too for 10 years.

mclendons play doesn't get Timmons and Williams out of position or any other LB. it's the LB'ers that get themselves out of position. those are the guys hurting the run defense. I'm not buying mclendon can't play that position to the level we need.

woods has done well, and those two should be playing the position. fangupo shouldn't even be on the roster, since we have them. find another LB instead. one that doesn't get out of position and can stop the run in his place. start arnfelt in ziggy's spot, if we are not going to bring him back. we have options.
