Ben never got love from the media. They were pretty open about their dislike for him. The lack of accolades etc. was there way at getting back at him. Thant was blatantly obvious. Lesser players got rewards at times with inferior stats or wins. Ben didn’t do himself any favors, he nicest guy to media etc.

‘Don’t play games. I’m not gonna go and search up examples to what I and everyone else including you already knows. Some things don’t need examples. When it’s obvious it’s obvious.

The Steelers knew what they were getting when they signed this guy last year. I’m not sure the production on the field is worth putting up with the circus around him at this stage of his career.

Some of the stuff he is saying recently is just bonkers and has no business being shared publicly, if it’s even true.

    He is one strange cat.

    Really? You sure bout that?
    Niners versus Bengals.
    SB MVP Jerry Rice.

    Joe Montana?
23-36/ 357 yards/2 touchdowns ZERO picks/ 115 Passer rating/ Montana leads 92 yard game winning drive from his own 8 ending in a touchdown to JOHN TAYLOR with 34 seconds remaining.

Did not know the media hated JOE MONTANA like that.

Why not when I make contentions I back it up with facts like I just did with Joe Montana.

Do tell what specific awards that Ben deserved were given to other QBs, and please share the rationale as to why Ben deserved it more?

No. Ben Roethlisberger never won AP NFL MVP or AP Offensive Player of the Year, and he received zero AP MVP votes across 18 seasons (2004–2021). That last fact is unusual for a two-time Super Bowl champion with his counting stats.

He did win AP Offensive Rookie of the Year unanimously in 2004 after a 13-0 start as a starter. He made six Pro Bowls and led the league in passing yards twice (2014, 2018).

Years people argue he was overlooked

Voters typically rewarded historic volume or efficiency seasons from other quarterbacks. Roethlisberger’s better statistical years still lagged the winners:

    • 2007: 32 TDs, 104.1 rating. Tom Brady won MVP with 50 TDs.

    • 2009: 4,328 yards, 26 TDs, 100.5 rating. Peyton Manning won.

    • 2014: 4,952 yards (league lead), 32 TDs, 9 INTs, 103.3 rating. Aaron Rodgers won.

    • 2018: 5,129 yards (league lead), 34 TDs. Patrick Mahomes won in a breakout year.

    • 2020: 33 TDs, 10 INTs after returning from injury; Steelers started 11-0. Rodgers won.

Other QBs with weaker or similar résumés in given years (Philip Rivers, Derek Carr, etc.) still collected at least a stray vote. Roethlisberger never did. Steelers teams often had elite defenses, which sometimes shifted “most valuable” talk to teammates. His own teammates voted him team MVP only once (2009).

Whether he should have won is subjective. He rarely posted the eye-popping counting stats that define modern MVP seasons, and he played in the same era as Brady, Manning, Rodgers, and Brees. The total absence of even one vote is the part that stands out.

    Media and pundit treatment

Coverage and later analysis mixed on-field evaluation with character. Examples:

    • Multiple outlets noted he never received an MVP vote and treated it as notable, not just a statistical coincidence. Steelers players and local writers pointed it out during 2017 and 2020 contention windows.

    • Retirement and Hall of Fame pieces frequently pair his stats with the allegations. The Guardian (2022) framed him as easy to admire as a quarterback but not as a man and focused on the cases. The New York Times similarly said the allegations “tarnish consideration of his legacy.” An SFGate column used far harsher personal language while recapping the same incidents.

    • Hall of Fame discussion regularly includes character and teammate reputation as a possible first-ballot hurdle even though official criteria are on-field. Mike Florio and others have said voters are human and will weigh leadership/reputation if the on-field case is close. Some former players (e.g., recent comments from Joey Porter) have called him a poor teammate or “not a good person” while acknowledging they protected him because he was the quarterback. LeSean McCoy publicly argued against HOF induction in part because Roethlisberger never made All-Pro.

    • Local Pittsburgh media was often blunt even before national pieces. Longtime sportscaster John Steigerwald called him a “bad citizen” and “punk” after the 2010 allegation and cited fan complaints about how he treated people.

    • Broader framing: some national voices treated two accusations as a pattern regardless of the lack of charges. Others reduced the 2010 NFL suspension and the civil settlement to “mistakes” or “immaturity” on farewell broadcasts, which itself drew criticism for sanitizing the record.

Other factors also existed: he was often described as surly with media, publicly criticized teammates at times, had a 2006 motorcycle crash without a helmet, and played a physical, high-turnover early style that later became conservative. Those traits independently made him an easier target than more media-friendly stars. A 2012 content analysis of TV coverage of Michael Vick vs. Roethlisberger found more airtime on Vick and more cultural framing of Vick’s case; it did not show the opposite racial double standard some fans assume.

Character issues are not the only reason he lacked individual awards. They are part of how many writers and voters talked about him.

Career stats vs. all-time volume leaders

Regular-season career: 249 games, 165-81-1 (.670 winning percentage as starter), 5,440 completions on 8,443 attempts (64.4%), 64,088 yards, 418 TDs, 211 INTs, 93.5 rating, 554 sacks. Playoffs: 23 games, 5,972 yards, 36 TDs, 28 INTs, 86.7 rating. Two Super Bowl wins (XL, XLIII), one loss (XLV). Four 500-yard passing games (NFL record). 41 fourth-quarter comebacks and 53 game-winning TD’s.

Ben was 7th all time in passing yards yet never one All Pro or never one MVP or Offensive Player of the year vote. He was 8th all time in passing TD’s, 8th` in completions and 5th in wins. Make it make sense. Yes ady and Manning and Brees to contend with during his tenure but not one single vote when he led the league in yardage twice and won two SB’s. Come on.

You essentially make my case. Although cumulatively his career was great he was denied awards because others had bigger seasons. Who gets a vote or two when NOT MVP is silly. That is less anti-Ben than underserved bias towards an undeserving candidate. Brady throws 50 TDs and goes to a SB, NO other QB is supposed to get a vote.

Would YOU have voted for Ben?

Also, while Ben was both a winner and stat monster, THEY NEVER HAPPENED AT THE SAME TIME. Also during his most prolific passing seasons, he was among the leaders in picks. And line you said, his prime paralleled players with beastly numbers.

It is just like Bettis or Franco as running backs. Great careers but others simply had higher peaks.

We cherry picking now? Plus Rice was a media darling and arguably the greatest nfl player ever. Not to mention Montana had his fair share of MVP’s that makes a difference when they are spreading mvp’s around based off all of their success back then.

This is funny, is this your thing? To go around having this same argument with multiple people and then ask for examples when examples were given in the past such as I did?

Rice had 215 yards on 11 catches and a TD, not exactly an apples for apples example with Holmes winning MVP. You know who won MVP the other 9ers Bengas SB? Montana on 14 of 22 passes for 157 yards and one passing touchdown, plus a one-yard rushing touchdown. Not exactly stellar numbers for MVP, Bens numbers were better.

Anyway, Im out, Ben got screwed, you’re entitled to believe otherwise.

Who gets a vote or when not MVP when your stats that season clearly state you should have - says everything about the bias against Ben which is exactly my whole point here and you choose to dismiss.

Or when a QB leans on one receiver that receiver tends to get MVP. Again you said when a QB and receiver has a good game MVP goes to the QB. Brady had a good game with 2 touchdowns and no picks when Branch won it despite his not even scoring. He just had almost the exact same statline as Holmes minus the game winning catch as neither Brady touchdown went to him.

You can believe all you want that Ben deserved it more, or that QBs in general are "more valuable". I only push back on the narrative that Ben hate is the only reason than Santonio won MVP. No HISTORICALLY when a QB relies on ONE GUY the receiver TENDS to get the award. You have yet to show by example that I am wrong.

Dude you cannot look at a Superbowl in isolation like that. Who SHOULD have been MVP if not Montana? That is like rightly making the case for Santonio by saying "well he was better than Hines and he was MVP.". Plenty of receivers have had better Superbowls than Hines Ward and not been MVP including other Steelers like Stallworth. That does not invalidate his MVP as pretty much nobody was dominant.

I just gave a second example in Branch versus Brady.

I am going to make my case that who gets a stray vote is meaningless. Those are biases towards undeserving players. If some clown says Romo is MVP that has nothing to do with Ben hate.

If some pick Bell or Brown, or Demarco they value those positions more than you. Clearly, you cannot fathom a receiver being MVP since he does nothing without the QB which I think is pretty common. I think it is why the Santonio MVP seems like a travesty to you. I am not even challenging THAT opinion.

But to this point, that voters don't vote for Ben out of hate....

Play the completely unbiased MVP voter who is not a fan of any team and knows nothing about Bens controversies.

In what season would YOU vote Ben MVP of the NFL?

Well you already have dismissed the hate and bias against Ben when the 2014 and 2018 seasons clearly support it. The fact is people voted for Brady and Romo when Ben clearly had a better season. Had a better year than Rodgers in some ways as well but you dismiss those voters as stray votes etc. your not being fair. I present you with examples to support what I’m saying and you just dismiss it. You’re one of those people that are never wrong. It must be tough being you and always right.

Reaching? He had won TWO when Branch won his. You keep claiming everything but "play" as how MVPs are won.
