Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback Joey Porter Jr. is officially listed as questionable for Sunday's season opener against the Atlanta Falcons due to a back injury and ongoing contract negotiations. [1, 2]

"I mean, at this point we got, what, 42 [hours]?" Porter said. "I don't know how many we got until game day, but clock's ticking, so it is what it is. At this point, we're going to be prepared. Regardless of the situation, we're going to want to play ball.

Really was hoping he'd have settled his contract by now but even if he did his back injury could have kept him out of the game. I want him out there. This one hurts.

    This is pretty crazy.

I've been pretty confident that the deadline would get this done. And it still might.

I guess we still have until tomorrow at ~ noon. But I thought it would be done by the end of today at the latest.

Would be interesting to be a fly on the wall to see what the sticking points are.

My guess is that Porter wants a guaranteed 2nd year and the team is trying to hold firm on not giving that to players who haven't earned a genuine probowl (where the line seems to be after DK's contract?)

Keep switching the record. I said.

"Your #'s are way off. All of them. .001% of the USA is billionaires you wrote?

USA has a total of 1,265 billionaires. This is 0.00037%.

    Google that.

If you mean millionaires after selling everything and paying off debts (house, retirement accounts, stocks, businesses — net worth of $1 million+), the latest count is around about 24 million people in the United States. About 14 % of Americans.

I have not time for this. We can read what you wrote.

Probably a sign JPJ isn't going to play.

JPJ getting drafted by the steelers in a nice story since his dad played ball here. but i am absolutely tired of this situation and hearing about it. when watt did this i tired of it and was ok with them trading him away for whatever they could have gotten. and that is where i am right now with this situation.

if he wants to sit because he isn't getting what he wants, trade him. availability is one of the best abilities. if he isn't available due to a contract dispute his abilities are moot.

JPS knows the organization and he should know that they pay their players, especially their good ones. it may take 1 year more than what the player wanted but both have certainly seen it happen.

my theory is, you want big guaranteed money? get your ass out there and show them why you deserve that big guaranteed contract or else someone other than you just might earn that roster spot and a contract in your place.

JPJ can either be part of this historic season or not. It won't make a lot of difference because this team is still missing pieces to be competitive in the AFC in the post season. And next season will feature a new QB that probably results in a lesser offense than this year, so again, he won't be the critical piece for a deep run in the post season.

What pieces are missing you say? Safety, inside LB, some fingers crossed at WR, and a prayer at QB.

Good riddance. What an ass. I don’t wan’t him here anymore. My only hope is we trade him to a terrible team and learns it isn’t all about the money and the grass isn’t greener on the other since. It is especially insulting since he grew up here and his Dad played here and we drafted him.

too many players these days, hell people in general these days never bank on themselves. many years ago merit got you pay from your employer. these days it has changed to the idea of pay will get your employer merit... which when looking at it has made much of society complacent. the ole, "if you pay me i will show you my worth" is now the norm where years ago it was "let me show you my worth."

I'm gonna spitball and just say his dad is the reason he hasn't signed yet. Joey Porter Sr doesn't have an abundance of brain cells in his head. Who can forget him as an assistant Steelers coach walking onto the field to talk smack with the other team during an injury?

My fear is we franchise tag him the next two seasons and still fail to get a deal done and he leaves for FA in March of 29

What is this crap? I'm trying to explain some stuff to you and talk about my own experiences within the football world, and all you do is keep finding ways to dismiss everything I said and decide to judge what I know about business and understanding your plight. I never claimed I was a business expert. Where are you coming up with this garbage?

You tell me how great your kid is, but you say you "didn't want to play that game" to get him exposure in the recruiting process. Well who's freaking fault is that? If that's what it took, then you weren't willing to do everything it takes to get that chance. Stop crying and b!tch!ng about it and taking it out on everyone else.

For crying out loud. If you want to hate on all paid athletes and continue to carry that self-inflicted giant chip of selfrightousness on your shoulder...go right ahead. Just stop talking down to me when I was just trying to help by suggesting that I understand some of what you experienced and that you should let some of that bitterness go for your own good.

He has done his primary job, which is to keep opposing receivers out of the end zone.
