Today would be a good day for the Steelers to sign JPJ to a contract extension.

 

Lions just restructured contracts for thirty million of extra cap space. My guess is JPJ is on his way to Detroit.

 

I am expecting it to get done at the 11th hour personally.

Yep, Joey and his Dad are asses. They know the Rooney’s can’t escrow the money for that second year garuntee. The Rooney’s would have paid it regardless they always do. Good riddance.

 

I feel the same way and am hoping that is how this plays out.

If not...I'm still going to be rooting for the Steelers whether Porter plays or not. Maybe that's what he needs to understand. All fans want our best players to play, but football life goes on whether he's on the field or not.

If he doesn't get a contract, then I hope he plays this season. We are almost at the witching hour, so we will all find out how the next chapter of this saga plays out relatively soon.

Yep Joey has to feed his family. Have you ever heard of compounding interest from investing and living within your means? Have you ever heard of borrowing against your hard assets to reduce income tax or capital gains tax - as long as your investments are beating inflation that’s often how the rich beat paying taxes. They borrow money and use the interest earned from investments to pay down the debt or the interest in the debt and they never pay tax. It’s called preserving your wealth. The key is to not live excessively. These athletes can’t do that so we are supposed to feel sorry for them They never should have received that kind of wealth in the first place they aren’t responsible enough with it.

Want to see how the likes of Derrick Harmon and Yahya Black do in Year 2. Same goes for the likes of the Offensive Line. I understand this threat is about the Peezy Jr. Contract but there are other storylines that must not be forgotten. Have to look forward to those as well.


For me and my personal X Factor?! Payton Wilson. What better way to say "I deserve a contract extension" than to limit Bijan Robinson. New Coordinator and new focus. Ball is in his court. Honorable mention does go to Patrick Graham.

Exactly. At least the owners took a bit of a risk starting or creating a business. They have employed 100’s of not thousands of people creating a living for those people. What did an athlete do? He was gifted physically and catered too his whole adult life. How many people do atheletes employ? Sure people in the health business and maybe they start there own business some day but a lot of them are leaches on society even with all of their money. Spending it on drugs, whores, night clubs, exotic cars etc.

 

This distinction needs to be remembered.


Apathy based on ones incomes is leagues different than sympathy based on one's merit.

As for the trade?! Pittsburgh isn't handing Porter Jr. away for free. Going to take a good amount of capital to pry him from the Steelers.

 

Making money and acting the way Joey is are two different things. It also is frustrating when another team comes in and essentially steal that player. I’ts frustrating. You took the risk in drafting that player and you developed him. Then some other team reaps the benefits of it. If Rooney can’t afford to escrow the money for a second year gauruntee then the Steelers are at a significant disadvantage in today’s common day nfl.

Steelers need to get at least 2 first rounders. Joey is pretty similar to Sauce Gardner.

 

I think Harmon has the ability to be a dominant player. He already shows flashes of it. He needs to improve his pass rush a bit, but the natural power, hands, and quickness is there and he plays with leverage.

Black is playing with much more weight and a different technique this season. He's a big boy, but tall and needs to play lower more consistently. He will have his struggles and adjustments to playing NT and consistently taking on double teams, but I think there is good ability there. I college he tended to go to the ground too easily. I think he has improved that part of his game already, but he needs to continue to work on his leverage and footwork in tandem with his hands. I am really looking forward to seeing how well he does in his new role.

I agree with your X Factor. This is a huge year for Payton Wilson. I have always loved his talent and his skillset, but it's time to start showing that he can play the game at a higher level in this new defensive system. I think the coaching staff is going to simplify some of the reads and responsibilities of the outgoing system, and is prioritizing interior defensive line to keep the LB's clean to run and hit.

What I want to see from Wilson is an ability to play more instinctual football. I want to see quick reads and use that God-given speed of his to explode to the hole and blow runners up for little or no gain and some tackles for loss on more plays this season. He has shown more of that this preseason...but that was preseason. We need to see more of that come Sunday. If that starts happening and Wilson's play progresses along with Queen being able to play more freely as well, the ILB's are going to make a big leap in impact this season. It will also mean that Black, Benton, Rubio, or whoever is playing in front of them is doing there job better and in a scheme that is working well for the talent they have on the roster. These inside backers are run and chase guys. Keep them clean and they will fly all over the field and make plays.

 

They can’t that’s the issue. The Rooneys don’t have the same kind of money as the ultra wealthy owners do. The second year gaunrtee requires that money to be escrowed. They don’t have it to escrow. Many of the owners in the nfl made their money elsewhere and they continue too. The nfl team for them is play money. For the Rooneys it is their core business that they generate a living off of and run year to year. I’m sure their margins relative to other owners is much smaller.
