Firstly, I'd much rather see us sign the guy before Sunday. However, if we can't sign him, I'd much rather trade him than string him along a couple years on the franchise tag and end up with a 3rd rd comp pick down the road. And considering he was limited in practice today tells me that a contract probably won't get done by Sunday.

 

If the number is real (I have my doubts about reporters), then I think you're right.

But my guess is that the number is something that some "reporter" or blogger made up. Probably at the beginning of the offseason before the CB valuation moved?

That contract puts him 7th on the CB AAV list ($28.75mm). It was probably a team friendly number before all of these higher value CB contracts got signed this offseason.

I think there's zero chance he signs for that (or anything under $30mm).

It would be a shame for us to lose a guy who's arguably our best draft pick since Watt (slim pickins since then) without genuinely trying to sign him.

 

If they do not come to an agreement before the season starts it really is irrelevant

Either way he plays on his rookie deal

Then next off season if he has a good year the can work on a deal

Why is this hard to understand

 

He was declining in his last year with us.

But the massive workload hid it a little because he still had good total numbers.

The "Summer of Lev" probably did make him worse than he otherwise would have been when he came back.

But without the year off, he wasn't going to be his old self either.

He'd seen a ton of touches by then. And had a bunch of injuries because of it.

We ran the wheels off him. Just like we did the FWP before him. And Najee after him (although at least after Najee's rookie year we discovered the idea of load sharing at RB with Warren).

 

I don’t believe that wear and tear was his primary downfall. The jets were a terrible organization and he wasn’t valued there, he wasn’t a good fit nor was the offense conducive for his type of running or putting him in position to have success.

Me personally?! College Season is in full swing and I have a bunch of players to scout.

 

He can always sit out and demand a trade. Not smart to do. But if it happens usually nobody wins.

 

It would probably be his worst choice. Contract tolls, fines, and a lost year of vestment for a pension. Instead of getting checks he would be writing them

 

And he looses money and his value drops

Him holding out is not a factor in the Steelers negotiations and it should not be

If he followed Cousins example he would have more money and freedom by signing the tag playing lights out and getting huge offers in FA afterwards.
