If you were to add 8 more teams in the NFL what cities?

If I added 8 more NFL teams -

* other options Austin, San Antonio, Columbus, Chicago or Memphis.

Pittsburgh needs a NBA team... wearing black and gold, of course.

 

Many of those cities have failed to support pro sports teams in other leagues. While the NFL has had success in smaller markets than other North American pro sports, they do not tend to move into them by choice.

Toronto seems like the most viable on that list but that is also traditionally, Bills territory.

International expansion seems more likely than domestic expansion.

I don’t know how you do international. Logistically with the travel, player taxes, team revenues etc. I don’t know if the demand is there, perhaps. I get one or two games over there but would the fans support a whole season?

ma7be if there were a different league over there it would work but would they even be competitive with the nfl or would it be like a xfl or something?

 

Absolutely. That's kinda why I went with 3 Canadian and 2 Mexican teams. Goodell is better off creating a new NFLE than creating two new Euro based divisions. Playoffs would be crazy.

 

Roger Goodell would probably add 8 teams to different countries instead of cities

I think that’s how it would have to go. Like An international division in Europe. Then do something like a champions league playoff between a few NFL Europe teams and a few NFL original Notth America teams.

Maybe the NFL could expand domestically in the south or southwest? But my limited experience is those folks would rather live and breathe SEC Saturday than NFL Sunday.

Toronto and Vancouver are the only Canadian cities that I would consider. Edmonton is not a good option, Montreal maybe, but the french canadians won't be large football supporters. I think that disqualifies them.

As for American cities... Portland, OKC, Salt Lake City, St. Louis are all good options like you mentioned. Austin and San Antonio make sense too. Columbus is a big enough city, but what would the fanbase be? Disgruntled Brows and Bengals fans? Its a small state for 3 teams. If youre looking to add a second team to a city, then Chicago, Washington DC, and Dallas all make sense. Memphis is okay, but idk... If we are going overseas, then a UK team based in London, a German team maybe? A French team in Paris? I think you have to stick to big cities in safe areas. No shot anyone wants to live in Mexico City as an NFL player.

 

I think the quality of the nfl talent would be so diluted if you added international teams to compete with American nfl teams. I doubt they would be competitive. I think you expanded to Europe it would have to be a feeder type system which I believe that already exists does not? I don’t ever see teams in Mexico just unsafe and too corrupt. Who would want to move there? I only see Canadian teams as an option or expanding in the USA. I could see Portland or Salt Lake a city doing well.

 

IDK, we saw a number of Europeans really dig into American culture for the World Cup. I think a big stadium with American food staples in a surrounding "megaplex" could do really well. They may not get into the team like they do their soccer teams over there, but a shot to go to an NFL game, eat a bunch of American food, and have a great time... that could actually go over well in certain areas. I would say UK, Germany, France as the main options for this. Potentially Italy? But, I don't know.

 

If they ever did this...I would be really hard to keep watching the NFL.

Maybe they do something like soccer where they relegate teams to the B league or something?

It's too bad because the league was basically perfect (especially re scheduling) with 16 games and 32 teams across 8 divisions.

I also think having teams in multiple countries can be tough re: ForEx and differences in taxation. I think this is part of the reason why Canadian teams haven't won the cup in so long (that and that my Maple Leafs are among the worst run franchises in sports history...which is why it's nice to have a well run team to cheer for in the NFL).

 

You’re right about Columbus between the Browns, Bengals and Ohio State that probably wouldn’t work. Chicago can’t even handle one team so I’m not sure. The politics are so messed up there the team is moving to Indiana actually. Not sure if Texas could support three teams Dallas draws all the attention. I think Edmonton would do fine. It is certainly big enough. The SEC territory is tough I get it so Memphis -robanly would not do well. I think Portland, OKC, Salt Lake City and St. Louis would do well. No way would I do DC you already have Baltimore right there as well. I don’t know where you get that 8th spot.

Why would it be hard to watch - diluted talent? I agree with teams in multiple countries but it’s quite obvious the nfl is really pushing for this. The thing is it would still just be a,Erica s transplanted over to that other country. So you would never feel like your truly facing off against that counties atheletes. I guess it doesn’t matter as with fifa it’s all transplanted atheletes. The thing is you add that many teams it would dilute the talent pool and probably quality of play fairly quickly. The nfl to create parity and that would be out the door. Any new teams especially in other countries would have to be competitive fairly quickly or the fans would lose interest. It could be a huge risk. A couple ga,es is one es in Europe where they haven’t drown up on it, it isn’t part of their culture like youth football or hs football or college football. I just see a really tough time with it catching on. We have a hard enough time getting people to adopt the NFL in cities like San Diego or LA where the people are busy hiking or doing outside stuff on weekends and not really into the nfl.

 

I can't wait to see the cheerleaders for the Hooker, Oklahoma team!

 

Players would give up half of their salary to play in Amsterdam.
