The Top 10 Coaches of all time

This list is pretty accurate you can maybe argue about the order though.

Belichick is #1
Lombardi is #2

 

George Halas being omitted is my personal problem number one. Problem number two is that Chuck Noll was more dominant than Shula was despite Shula having the Coaching Record. Noll built objectively the greatest dynasty in NFL History while not finishing the 1980s below .500.


Biggest issue for me would be Lombardi not being number one. His tragic passing before his second act took off in Washington shouldn't diminish everything else.

Shula had Dan Marino for 13 seasons and won zero SB's. That list is an opinion. Belichick had Brady or he'd be an after thought.

 

‘There are two issues with Belicheck at 1. His record without Brady and he clearly cheated. That can’t just be dismissed. I would move him down to 8th in this list and move everyone u- a spot and move Landry and Noll up past Shula.

 

Yeah, he cheated but he won 6 Super Bowls and has the second most wins in NFL history.

* The issue with Bellicheck was he cheated repeatedly which has to be accounted for Ted for and his record without Brady isn’t great.

 

I'm old school so I would have to have Curly Lambeau on the list. His Packers won 6 NFL championships in the early days of the league. When the NFL started it wasn't much more than a rugby scrum but Lambeau introduced the forward pass to pro football and modernized the league.

 

Whenever you use a “But” in a sentence everything after it holds no weight. He absolutely would not have won 6 super bowls and the second most wins had he not cheated. The cheating was very significant by the way. The commissioner swept it all under the carpet and destroyed all the evidence because he didn’t want to compromise the integrity of the game. Bellicheck is an absolute sleazeball. He wasn’t good for the game. He mistreats people at the cost of winning. Has no morals using his celebrity and money to date a chick old enough to be his granddaughter. Look at how his loser son turned out. All very telling of him as a person. It’s crazy how Pete Rose got banned for life from the Baseball HOF and Bellicheck will more than likely get into the pro football HOF.

 

I don't put known cheaters on lists of all-time greatest anything. Is BB a great coach? Obviously. There are many great coaches not on this list.

What is your point here? You’re justifying what the guy did? People can justify anything and it happens quite a bit in our society today. I don’t know of any single team going to the extent the Bellicheck teams did to win. There is so much cheating going on in our world today whether it be politics or whatever that people just become hardened to it. There is a reason why the NFL has rules to create a fair and equitable game. The bottom line is the guy cheated did he not? And people make excuses for him or justify it. His cheating literally affected the outcomes of games and as a result his record and his Super Bowls are tainted. There is no defending it or justifying it.

 

Belichick was a all-time great coach and he was also a cheater...Both can be true.Similar to Barry Bonds in baseball

 

Maybe you have posts confused? I absolutely do not justify what he did!

Every teams takes advantage of the rules, but only the Patriots were punished for it because they crossed the line repeatedly.

Sorry I did. Not only did they cross the line but they went way over it. People will say well the Steelers did Steroids in the 70’s. Indeed they did but it wasn’t a banned substance at that time and that was individual players doing it not a system wide ploy orchestrated and managed by the HC.

 

Does a Leopard change its spots? You honestly believe he stopped cheating after spygate? I can remember teams constantly complaining their headsets wouldn’t work when they played at Gillette Stadium. It wasn’t only the visiting teams that it seemed to happen to. That is just one of many examples after spygate. Bellicheck never met a rule he didn’t want to take advantage of. As far as he was concerned that was just a demarcation point. The more rules the better as that was advantageous to him because it hamstrung the competition while he skirted the rules.

 

That isn’t true. Barry Bonds went from having a high hitting average and on base average to leading the league in home runs and rbi’s. So yes Barry was great even before cheating but it’s a bad analogy. Bellcheats cheating literally impacted his winning percentage, playoff seeding and ultimately super bowl appearances and wins which his whole legacy is built on. By the way Barry Bonds legacy is completely tainted. He is not talked about or included as being one of the greats and nor should he. It yet people want to talk about Bellcheat as one of the greats as if cheating didn’t impact his record. There is a fine line between being a good coach and a great coach in the nfl. Bellcheat was a good coach who cheated to make himself appear as a great coach.

 

Cheating is cheating and if your accomplishments, while cheating, are taken away, what are the Patriots left with?

I was accused of cheating in a golf tournament by people who didn't know the rules of golf. There are very few rules in golf which you can use to your advantage, but if you know the rules well enough to do it, it just means you know the rules better, if you break the rules, you are just a cheater!

 

Exactly. The Patriots and Bellicheat are very lucky they weren’t stripped of some of their Super Bowl titles. Kraft isn’t much better. I can’t stand that fan base either. Even that Boston accent is annoying they sound like a bunch of petulant little children when they talk. I never liked Brady either but at least he proved himself when he went to Tampa and won a SB.

 

It would be awesome if that happened! Can you imagine 30 years down the road, someone who isn't aware, looking in the record books and saying "why is there no Super Bowl champion for these years?"

What are we basing this on? SB/Championships? Influence on the game? Career wins? Longevity?

The list seems to be a hodge-podge of them all with no real clear evaluation criteria.
