A roster made up of HOF, All Pros and pro bowlers is not an opinion it’s a fact that it was an elite roster.

Ben Roethlisberger, Hines Ward, Willie Parker, Heath Miller, Santonio Holmes, Alan Faneca, Casey Hampton, Aaron Smith, Brett Keisel, James Farrior, James Harrison, Ike Taylor, Ryan Clark and Troy Polamalu.

Even if you want to play semantics with the definition, just compare the 2006 roster with the 2025 roster. Using the record is disingenuous and proves you are not interested in having an honest debate. Tomlin stepped into a team much more talented than what McCarthy has gotten.

This x 1,000. The Green Bay Packers are the only 7th seed to ever win in Wildcard round! Vs Cowboys with HC, McCarthy. :lolol:

No AFC 7th seed has ever won a Wildcard matchup! So this proves the 7th seed is a waste of space. Need to go back to 6 seeds and 2 byes for 1-2 seeds.

Sorry, but there's nothing impressive about Tomlin's 10 win seasons and 7th seed losses. Nothing at all. Participation trophy. :smiley1:

Baltimore colts did not make the playoffs in 1967 with a 11-1-2 record!

    True.

Which is why it's not shocking that we lost in the playoffs because we didn't really deserve to be there.

The expected result when you're the biggest underdog in playoff history is that you're going to lose. So it shouldn't be a big shock if you lose when you're the biggest underdog in playoff history.

I never checked this, but I think I read / heard somewhere that we would have made the playoffs every year under Tomlin if the 7th seed was around consistently.

And I think that you're right that several of those teams that missed pre-7th seed were better than the teams the Steelers dragged into the playoffs kicking and screaming.

The Steelers didn't pass on Donald because he was already off the board when the Steelers were up .

Luckily for Donald, otherwise he would have been wasted like crazy with the Steelers at the ILB

I hope that the extent of that greed only extends to playing several international games a year and not ever actually having international team(s) but sadly that probably will be what happens.

Nothing against our international fans and I am sure it would be great for them, I just think it’s a logistics nightmare to have internationally based teams.

If you don’t win your division you don’t deserve to be in the playoffs

8 division winners and start the playoffs from there

Not every division are the same, otherwise team like the panthers would make the playoffs last season at 8-9 but not the rams and the bills

6 teams per conference was perfect

Over the last decade or so, I think the big take away is to never underestimate the NFL's thirst for revenue.

Pluto used to be a planet, then it wasn't, then it was considered again for a while as a planet but it now it is considered a dwarf planet not quite up to snuff with the other eight planets. I guess it's on the Solar systems practice squad. Called up when needed for a awhile and then sent back down again.

Notice that Goodell just got a new contract.

This is in part because he came up with brilliant revenue generating ideas such as: Instead of having fewer playoff games, let's have MORE playoff games!!

He's right that there are often teams that don't win their division that are much better than some division winners.

Seems like every couple years the NFC has a division winner that's flirting with a sub-500 record.

And if you're in a division like ours with 2 very good QBs, you'd be pretty much screwed (if they could stay healthy).

Wasn't part of the reason for introducing the wild cards that you'd get really good teams that missed the payoffs?

I'd imagine not too many of us were watching before the first WCs team was added in 1970. But they went to two WCs / conference in 78. So I'd guess some on here were watching (and can remember) before that.

Their record of .917 winning percentage is still the highest ever for any sports team not to make the playoffs. They were undefeated going into their final game of the year and still didn't qualify for the playoffs. The Rams defeated them in the final game and they both finished 11-1-2.
