In fairness to Fields, he gave the Steelers the lead late in the fourth quarter and Dak and da 'boys carved up our defense like a T-day Turkey, posting the the winning TD late in the game. Elandon Roberts almost forced a T.O. but I think Dak recovered the goal line fumble.

Fields is a hellava athlete and has the heart of a lion, but a QB he is not.

I think this is correct. We feel he has some value, so we will wait until we get a good price and ship him out. If it buys us 4-6 weeks with a more experience back up, then even better.

There were other minor factors during Matt Canada’s time with the Steelers. None of them change the main fact. Mike Tomlin hired him and then promoted him. Canada was Tomlin’s guy. The offense stalled, the scheme never fit the roster, and the coordinator stayed in place longer than the results justified. That is not an assistant acting on his own. That is a head coach standing behind a hire he made. Canada was Tomlin's fall guy.

• Allar went 30-for-54 for 351 yards and 3 total touchdowns.
• He played primarily with backup-level receivers, offensive linemen, and running backs, rather than consistently with the Steelers' top WR groups.
• Several of his regular targets did not ultimately make the roster.
• There were 8 catchable balls that were dropped that I counted.
• If 7 of those 8 drops had been caught, his numbers would rise to 37-for-54 (68.5%), plus roughly 50+ additional yards.
• The pass protection was poor.
• The running backs he played with were also a step below Warren and Dowdle, particularly as complete runners and receiving options.
• He had some inaccurate throws especially on more difficult intermediate/deep attempts and those should absolutely count against him.
• But he didn't turn the ball over during the three games, which matters when evaluating a young quarterback.

When you factor the all of the above in, I give him a B+ for the preseason. For Rookies I look for them to flash talent. Allar flashed talent on the plays him made and the play his receivers missed.

Moving froward for the 2026 season, Allar should be no higher than the third QB. But I for one hope that he get a chance -- say 5% of the snaps to work with the #1'd during the season practices.
