My thoughts on preseason wk 3

I wouldn't call him slow, he just wasn't very quick or explosive. I'd take Najee over Kaleb Johnson any day, at least he's strong and can run over people. I've not seen any of that from Johnson, he's basically a smaller and weaker version of Najee.

 

I've been a Dylan Cook supporter, especially after his solid play at LT at the end of last season. That said, I can't describe his performance this preseason as "very good." Granted, it's been better on the left side than on the right, but overall, he seems to have been playing a bit soft, too easily pushed around.

Unless he dramatically picks up his play, I look for Ileanchor to take his place partway through the season.

 

Our return special teams have been atrocious! They have yet to open a lane for Wetjen.

 

Yeah that was my point. He's smaller and weaker than Najee, but a similar style runner. I was wondering if it would be best for him to bulk up and try to maintain his athleticism at a higher weight.

Najee may not have been that quality of a starting RB, but he was definitely a lot better than anything Johnson has put on an NFL field.

 

Not to mention the TE that he hit right in the chest that dropped the ball on what probably would have been a first down if he caught it clean and would have extended the drive.

 

I would recommend watching this.





This isn't to say you are wrong. Just a more detailed look.

 

1000 yards is a joke. When it really meant something there were 12 games 83.3 YPG, now it's 58.8YPG.

 

Hope, yet again, must be paired with clarity.


For Drew Allar to work, he will need to continue to hone his craft. Much like a Martial Artist mastering his fighting style, Drew needs to continue to streamline his Mechanics, Footwork, Hip Torque, Release Speed and most notably, his Pocket Presence. Allar must learn when to step up within the Pocket. He did show some signs of this at the end of the Jets Game along with the end of the Bill's Game.

Being objective sometimes requires repetition. Don't forget that some of the viewing audience could be new to Football and are wanting to learn. If someone wants to learn on how the position should be played from a snap to snap analysis, as ofnow, no one does it better than JT.

 

He'll get a helmet, but he won't be on the field for more than 10 or 11 plays

 

I think the OL has most of us worried right now.

I don't think Roman Wilson or Kaleb Johnson make the 53.

RB room will still be full of play makers. Will be nice to see this team be strong in the run game again.

This defense has some serious playmakers at every level. They will be fun to watch.

ST is as big a question mark for me as is the OL.

 

NH and KJ suffer from the same ailment; poor vision in finding holes in the line.

 

That was a big drop. It would have gave the Steelers a first down on the final drive.

 

Its not all about vision its setting up blockers and anticipation of where the crease will be ...IMO RB'S are either born with the instincts or they are not .. RB'S who lake those skills need to run behind great Offensive lines and just plow ahead ...So its hit the hole or make a hole ..Stop trying to be something they are not..

 

There is that and the fact that neither is really an NFL caliber athlete. At least not to be the focal point of an offense. Both accumulated a ton of stats in college but now everyone is on scholarship and there are no weak points to run over.

I really hope whoever has been in charge of identifying Steelers RB draft targets has been replaced in their scouting department.

 

There was not much joy in the game against the Bills.
Max was a about the only bright spot. He got smoked a couple times but recovered very well. Beating Cook out should be easy.
From 91 to 53 should be easy for the first 30. They cut 11 pretty quick.

The QB situation did not progress as I hoped.
Mason is a pretty low bar to pass. (Damn I wish we had signed Sam Howell a couple years ago)
Howard's lead on Allar is going to be short lived.

Not really. You are comparing that with RBs that ran the ball way more times in even less games than Najee Harris did. Hell Najee only had over 300 rushing attempts once, he was sharing carries way more than the backs of yesterday ever did.
Hell we have no way of knowing how many yards he would have gotten if he had carries as much as Derrick Henry 378 in a year, Bettis 375 carries, or Adrian Petersons 363 carries, and so on. Almost all of them had well over 300 carries a year if they played the whole season. Najee got that chance one time., and it was only 306 carries.

 

Warren couldn't manage it in his first season as their primary back. Only one back in the NFL was over 1,000 yards every year that Harris was in Pittsburgh. No one else. He did it with a passing game that was below par and an offensive line that wasn't much better. I know some of y'all are desperate to slag the guy, but you're wrong.
