It hasn't been announced yet I don't know why McCarthy likes to be secretive about some things.

I'd like to see more Wetjen too.

Re: Roman, I think it depends on whether they've given up on him or not. Or maybe if they're trying to showcase him for a trade...but maybe not playing him would be better in that case...

Kind of like Johnson. I think him getting zero ST snaps last game was a really bad thing for him. If we see a repeat tomorrow, then I think he's certainly out. But the fact they gave him so many snaps at RB might suggest they want to try to trade him. Wouldn't get much, but maybe something.

With all the "Secretive" speak I am guessing McCarthy is hoping to get Rodgers a series this week. We may even see Rudolph back in for the 1st series if it is not Rodgers.

I think both DK and Pittman are going to start the game this week, so McCarthy may want his entire 1st team out there to start the game.

Do starters ever play in the final preseason game?

Not generally, but we haven't seen the starting offense once this preseason; it would be nice if they played at least 1 series together.

Why else would McCarthy not say who is playing like he has in the previous weeks?

My plan would be Rodgers for 2 series. Rudolph til halftime and then Allar 3rd quarter and Howard for mop up duty. Can’t go into the season being cold and flat. What good is it going into game 1 with no fluidity?

Game 1 our offense will probably go 3 and out 2 or 3 times and be behind 10-0 to begin the season.

Players will be more prone to injury if they are too soft to begin the real games.

I’d be starting most of the first string defense also for at least 2 series.

if they’re looking to not have anyone injured then they might as well start the mascots and concession stand workers.

Long time ago they did. Starters usually played the first two quarters in the fourth preseason game

I agree, give AR a series or two. Then MR the same. Howard and Allar the rest of the game.

we need to know what these rooks have. This is why i wish there were still 4 preseason games

Preseason is meaningless nobody plays starters. You could play 24 games and it wouldn’t mean ****.

It's been around 9 years since Rodgers has played in a pre-season game. He doesn't want to so therefore he won't.

There used to be 4 preseason games and starters usually played a full half for the 3rd game. I would rather the players be cohesive going into the real season than uncomfortable and full of mistakes.

Where the he’ll did 24 games come from? Maybe you should follow cornhole tournaments.

That’s how it used to be. Now nobody takes these games seriously and at most starters play a series or two. That’s not getting anybody ready for anything. I agree with you I wish they would play more to prepare but it’s not just the Steelers. Preseason is a joke. I thought cornhole was to 21? You would know.

Its far from meaningless, its purpose is to evaluate new players. Its also used to get the vets ready for the reg season. The smart teams give their starters at least a few series to knock the rust off so they look somewhat cohesive week 1.

He mentioned the focus would be to get the young guys reps. I would imagine its probably a 95% chance that Howard starts, then Allar comes in and a 5% chance that Rodgers plays a series. I would be pretty surprised if Mason plays at all.

1 series of Rodgers handing the ball off a few times and making a couple check downs would make no difference in week 1. Now if you wanted to say play those units a couple half’s in multiple pre season games sure I’ll buy it.

I'd like to see Allar against talent more commensurate with what he would see in the real season. But regardless of who it is, I hope to God we see some improvement in O-line play. Set some O-line stability.
