If Rodgers goes down this offense will run the ball, and dink and dunk their way to mediocre offensive output game to game. It'll be screens, short passes, and a general hit/miss you get with lesser QBs. Whether the team can win games at that point comes down to how good the defense is.

I totally agree, but my question is what does a 6th round pick, with no NFL experience, that has already been passed up, by every team in the NFL at least 5 times have that all those other Qbs that will be on PS, and , or cut don't? Going to be a lot of young Qbs floating around out there in a few weeks

I already said I haven't studied QB3s for all other teams. It wasn't a strong QB class.

Definitely sounds like they are keeping 4 with that answer.

Keeping four is the way to go. Its a sound long term strategy. QB room all set next year. Concentrate on other positions in the draft. All the people who say Allar is going to be this and that, well, he needs competition. Let's find out who the best qb is: Rudolph, Howard, Allar

Keeping 4 is not my preferred path simply because I wonder which player will not make the team because of it but I’d be happy knowing that both Howard and Allar will spend a year in McCathys QB school.

Then may the best man win next preseason for QB1

The QB room will be "all set" next year? With Mason Rudolph and 2 guys who have never taken an NFL snap? That would be the worst QB room in the entire league. Rooney would never throw away a year like that, the Steelers would have to go and find another stop gap veteran starter for another year. The only way this won't happen is if Rodgers and Mason both get hurt early in the season and then we can find out what we have in the young guys.

I’m sure the plan is to start Allar next year, he was handpicked by McCarthy and has the superior talent. Every QB coming from college that starts has never thrown an NFL pass before, have to get your feet wet sometime.

Another bridge QB is just another non SB season. They could get lucky and land Burrow who sounds like this will be his last year in Cincy if they have another failed season but that would take numerous first rd picks and I doubt Bengals trade him within the division.

More than likely we will be watching Allar next year.

    :hmm:

I still come away bemused as to why people believe that Drew Allar or Will Howard becoming QB1 in 2027 but not performing up to what the team thinks forbids Mike McCarthy and the Steelers from drafting one in in 2028?! If there is some cosmic unspoken rule about drafting QBs in Round 1 while you have a starter but only one that is average, I would like to know where in NFL Team Building is that stated. If anything and, perhaps not the best example, the Arizona Cardinals may have to opt for Carson Beck should Jacoby Brissett show signs of poor performance.

I personally don't believe Brissett is long as the starter anyways. How this applies to the Steelers is the same aspect. Hell, the 2028 NFL Draft doesn't need to be applied if both Allar and Howard don't show any form of progression in practice through their Rookie Seasons. Who's to say the Steelers are prohibited from drafting a QB in Round 1 in 2027?!

In short?! Have to be patient with both Will and Drew. Keeping Mason is more so based as a safeguard than it is omission of both. Now, I do believe that having 4 QBs essentially means someone is going to miss the Final 53 sadly. Who that is though remains to be seen.

Unless something goes extremely wrong for Allar in terms of his development under McCarthy, be it from injury or just incompetence on drew's part (I don't see it personally), Drew Allar will be in competition for the Steelers Starting QB Spot in 2027. As I have said about him since I first scouted him back in 2024, way too much talent and potential to not roll the dice on. Should he fail, it will not be due to not trying on Pittsburghs part but his own. He needs to seize this moment.

Thus far, he has progressed far faster and better than I thought he would; namely in his lower body mechanics. Not nearly as much heel clicking and he is becoming more attuned to marrying his throwing motion through his lower half as opposed to using mainly upper body only.

    Survivor Island: Mason, Howard, Allar.

To be honest, I know people are saying Allar is hand picked by Mcarthy and is the clear future talent... Rudolph and Howard might have something to say about that and it might surprise some people, Allar hype needs to settle

The Allar hype needs to settle but let's give 32 year old Mason Rudolph with a 9-10-1 career record a chance to be the starter next season, unbelievable.

With new OC and scheme plus more thorough QB coaching system, yes, Mason has a chance to have a career year, but he has to beat out the ascendant "new guys"

He's kinda a poor man's Drake Maye. He has more "wrong" with him coming into the league, and I think Maye is just more talented than Allar, but I think a perfect world could see him ascend like this, though, maybe not quite as high as Maye. I like his progress so far, but there's still a long way to go. He's 100% going to be competing for the starting job next year though whether he improves or not as long as we don't draft a first round QB. We aren't just going to give it to him, but we likely won't go out and sign a FA vet either. We're going the rookie deal QB route one way or another.

The roster gymnastics isn't worth keeping that 4th QB... once injuries hit, it becomes even worse for us. We either cut Tonyan, or Bruener, or maybe Echols? Those are the only ones that make sense and put us in a tough spot being thin at some positions, even if those guys aren't pushing starters.

Any QB that is beaten out by Mason Rudolph doesn't belong in the NFL or probably even the UFL or CFL.

A much better comp for Drew Allar would be Big Ben actually. I don't see much of anything in Drake Mayes game that compares absent their physical profiles.

Must have missed some of his throws against the packers where he went 10 for 10
