For the millionth time Johnson probably wasn't taking a job without a franchise QB .

He would need to go undefeated and win 5 straight super bowls to be considered the greatest HC of all time. Odds are against him.

I guess you forgot when Haley was the OC and they talked about wanting to score over thirty points a game. Johnson should worry about his QB having a higher completion percentage than 58%, they won't come close to averaging 37.9 points.

If McCarthy is only here for 3-5 years and is successful, it would be nice if he's able to groom his successor.

He said Tom Arth will be a HC someday but I would think he will get that opportunity before McCarthy leaves. Or maybe he gets promoted to OC here which could put him on a path to be the next HC.

It used to work well, not for the last ten-twelve years. Don't know if it has become harder to promote from within due to the moving around of coaches or if it was just another in a never-ending line of Tomlin screw ups.

And let's not anoint Ben Johnson just yet.

Aerial circus worked for a while with Tommy "gun" Maddox in 2002... but teams adjust. Still gotta be able to run the ball.

And have more than three plays on offense.

And throw the ball deep once in a while just to keep the D honest.

And use your weapons i.e. Darnell Washington.

And have a defensive scheme that allows the highest paid D in the league to have a little sccuess.

I could go on and on.:smiley1:

I wonder who's coaching tree would add a branch? :lolol:

That alone would be sufficient to have many bitching for years.

Not a problem as long as he's successful and gives us a good coaching tree to follow him
