This was already discussed, at length by many, during the Offseason. It is called an adjustment period. Troy Fautanu has two fully occurred seasons at Right Tackle in the NFL. This season marks the first at Left Tackle in the NFL.

His prior experience guarding the left side will help for sure. That said, it is going to take some time for him to get his fundamentals back to a point where it is second nature to him. One game, a preseason game at that, doesn't personally tell me anything I already stated.

In short?! Troy did not play well; neither did Dylan Cook. Expect both to take some lumps for a while.

Why do we have back up tackles who are swing tackles and can play either position but when starters try and switch, holy cow, it’s too hard and it can’t be done.

    Cook struggled

He is a backup forced temporarily into a starting role

    He played like a backup

Fautanu has had a bad camp and is showing some concerns at left tackle in my opinion. This is a an early red flag.

He struggles sticking with edge rushers in pass protection in camp
Multiple false starts and a costly holding penalty (one that wiped out a touchdown).
Allowed pressures and a sack in limited action.
He himself admitted after the Packers game that he has “a lot to clean up,” especially the mental side and knowing when to let go of blocks.

It is his 3rd year in the NFL. We can't keep making excuses for him. Is he a left tackle, or a better fit at right tackle? I say right tackle. Let's see how he does next preseason game. Another bad outing might McCarthy move him back to RT and Cook to LT.

Rodgers doesn’t have time for these guys to figure it out come game 1. He will be a sitting duck back there.

This was expected unless you thought it would be a seamless switch. He's relearning the position. Fautanu had one false start all of last season.

That’s just not true. He supposedly has really good feet and length. He is supposedly technical and polished. Yes he hasn’t had a good camp or preseason. But I don’t think it is for the reasons you mentioned.

Call me a staunch critic of all OT's on the roster except for Iheanachor. Too early to rate or know what IMAX can do at LT or RT.

Cook, since he is a UDFA... I will be more lenient and patient with. Fautanu and Jones will get no such leniency since they were drafted round freakin' 1. Wasn't Villanueva a UDFA?

I've been away a bit but I said earlier I wanted Troy to stay at right as he was excelling there and start Cook and train Max at left. I just think Max has the perfect tools and skill set for left and do not think that Troy does despite playing that side in college (for a left handed QB).

I think Max's rawness works in his favor. I think "sidedness" is more familiarity than "natural position" for most players. Max has proven to be a very quick learner and his rawness means right side is less ingrained in him.

I haven't been a big fan of all the musical chairs "reshuffling" this team has done with o-linemen over the past several years. Seemed like the line was starting to come together toward the end of last season, but then, once again, it was decided that they needed to re-arrange the pieces. I'm willing to cut Campen & McCarthy a little bit of slack, but hopefully they get it right soon, so that there's not almost another whole season spent getting it where it needs to be.

It was a huge mistake by O-Line coach Pat Meyer to move Fautanu to RT. Fautanu played LT his entire time in College. Broderick Jones who played RT his rookie year, should have stayed at RT the entire time with Fautanu replacing Dan Moore at LT when he was drafted.

Thank God Pat Meyer is gone, give the new coaches some time to bring Fautanu around, they have a lot of "UNCOACHING" to do because of the previous staff.

Seamless switch? I did not expect that. But Troy was a walking red flag in pre season game #1
