Who is #50 Jamin Davis?

Someone that stood out in the 1st preseason game that I had no idea was on the roster was #50 Jamin Davis. Davis spent last year in Vegas with DC Patrick Graham.

1st round pick in 2021. No NFL combine numbers because of Covid. At his Pro Day he ran a 4.37 40 at 6'4" and 234 pounds.

In last nights game against Green Bay I just kept seeing #50 make play after play, and was like who the hell is this guy.

Steelers just signed Elandon Roberts, so does Jamin Davis even have a chance to make the roster?

 

He was a first round bust with Washington at ILB, he's playing OLB with the Steelers practice squad candidate.

 

he had 2 sacks last night. also a few other plays made. nice game. if he keeps that up he will be a hard cut.

 

He has been cut a lot

So was James Harrison

 

Super stiff in the hips and still developing as a Pass Rusher. That said, his true home isnt at EDGE but more so of a hybrid ILB/EDGE Player. Doing that could benefit him in the long run.


If not that, in order to win as a 3-4 OLB, he will have to become proficient at converting speed to power. That is his only logicial path as of today.

 

I personally think his true position would be a 4-3 OLB.

6'4"and 234 pounds is just to small to play at the line of scrimmage with your hand on the ground. Herbig is 6'2" 240 pounds and he is on the small side for a 3-4 OLB.

 

4-3 OLBs still need to be able to transition well laterally. In coverage that isnt too big of an ask for Jamin but he wouldnt be the most reliable due to his below average instincts in zone coverage. Flat zones and some hook zones are fine but keep him away from doing shell zones.
