My hate blinds me that some fruitcake at Steelers Depot thought Detroit would call the Steelers to trade for Mason and before the ink was dry the Lions had already picked up Dobbs??? Thats not hate but it is hysterical that happened. Your Rudolph homerism blinds you to what he is.

Only if some of the people on this board become GM’s.

Let's see how things look in a couple weeks. They haven't even played a preseason game yet. Or a scrimmage vs another team, which is what some orgs use as their best work days in camp (those teams tend to rest their starters in the preseason games).

People only remember that years ago Rudolph won 3 games in a row against Jake Browning, Geno Smith and Tyler Huntley. They forget that he has lost 6 out of his last 7 starts since then including his last 2 as a Steeler. If Rodgers goes out for a 6 week period we would at best go 2-4 with Mason Rudolph. Duck Hodges won his first 3 starts against Philip Rivers, Kyler Murray and Baker Mayfield and was hailed as a folk hero around Pittsburgh but then never won another NFL game. Many backup QB's like Tommy Devito or Josh Dobbs have stepped in and done really well for 3 or 4 weeks in a row only to crash down to earth again.

Maybe? Getting a fourth-round pick for a guy like Rudolph would be quite a gift.

LoL. I don't have any thing for Mason, I already said at least 20 times either keep him, or bring in another experienced backup.
Some of you have a problem understanding what an experience backup actually is.
Hes not the future for most teams that have one, he's the emergency guy for a couple of games.

    LoL.
They all crash back down to earth because they are backups. LoL. That's what they are paid for, those 2 , or 3 games.

No one is making the argument Rudolph is the future, hope to God no one is anyway. But hes not much of a BU either.

Hes no worse, or better than many BUs, but like I said before, I don't care if they get rid of him, I just want them to bring in a experienced BU Qb if they do. Next year the Young guys on our team will have enough experience to be the backups to whomever is the starter, but this year they are under experienced.

How are Howard and Allar gonna ever get experience if they never get a chance to play?

Ben Roethlisberger was "under experienced" on September 26, 2004 vs Miami. He did pretty good, IIRC. In a hurricane.

They get experience by practice, and preseason.
    Hell ....
    1. Ben had more experience in the NFL than either of them have right now. Ben got a whole camp, and 4 preseason games. Neither has had that. Howard was hurt most of last year , so not much practice for him, and no preseason.
    2. I doubt they are Ben, but I hope they are.

Dude it's not real football to a 42 year old vet that has tons of NFL experience, but to two Qbs that hasn't had a full year of practice in the NFL, or ever played a NFL preseason game its a lot.

That isn't how professional sports work.... Of course he is fighting for something. He is fighting for the opportunity to get a bigger contract next year, the opportunity to sign somewhere where he has a chance to start... Ultimately he is fighting for his spot on THIS team. He's been here for a long time and it seems to be the only place that really values him. There isn't so many good QB's in the league that Mason won't have a spot somewhere this year, but if he gets cut/traded he's fighting for one year contracts the rest of his career in all likelihood. He's a bad year/camp away from having one foot out of the league at 31-32 years old.

Yeah, I doubt we'd get anything more than a 6th or 7th. Teams know we might even just cut him outright. If more backups go down to injury, then maybe we can get a couple teams interested and get some pick swaps going... but that is wishful thinking. Mason has very little trade value. He's been a decent safety net for us for a while, but that doesn't mean any of the other 31 teams think he's worth anything.

60+ QBs played in a game last season. Rudolph will find work.

In Rudolphs own words he was about to go sell insurance when the Steelers came knocking a second time. Seems his value lies with the Steelers and that was with the old coaching staff. We’ll find out how McCarthy feels about soon.

i believe mason has more value than most on this board. so does mccarthy. he almost drafted mason. i don't really care what he did with our former staff and with the titans. not QB friendly situations then. he has value as a backup under this staff and to help these two young guys we have, especially under game time situations. rodgers won't have time to come off the field and coach these guys during games. mason will understand what is going on and can relay that too them in those situations. he also can push the ball down the field when needed. i rate him a lot higher than many.

I think TGH was his moniker. The last I heard from him he was having a meltdown about Diego Pavia not getting drafted. He said Pavia was clearly the best QB in the draft and a future All Pro. After getting pummeled on here for that ridiculous statement he hasn't been back.

It would worth looking at the list of the other 31 backups. I would be okay with Mason being our backup if it weren't for the two upsides behind him.

ETA: This particular piece of click bait his him 15th

And yet none of them felt the need to upgrade when Mason was available. Whats that say about him.

Also that list has Kenny 16th so I wouldnt put too much value into the opinion of whoever is ranking them.

Maybe the Steelers were asking too much? And to your point, if it's in the media, it's about 2% logic/reality.

They used to say believe 90% of what you see and 10% of what you hear, now it's like believe 10% of what you have personally experienced.
