The most noticeable thing about the defense the last 2 years or so was how unimaginative it was. It just seemed to be the same rush each time, the same single high, almost like the mentality was that “we’ve got good players, let them do their thing.”

That’s clearly a scheme issue. But it’s also not clear why the scheme went that way, because it certainly wasn’t always like that under Tomlin’s tenure. Did he check out? Was Austin focused on fundamentals and not strategy with scheme calling?

I’ll take some of Fitzpatricks comments with a bit of a grain of salt - he basically seems to be explaining why his production dropped off. Hes still on the hunt for contracts, he’s making a case for his value

Fitz was targeted a lot his last season in the Burgh. On my old board plenty of people were saying he was made the scapegoat on the defense. It was really Austin's scheme and communication confusions that were the problem.

I think there’s great value in having a deep safety who is dangerous enough that opposing teams avoid him. If you have two, you can play 2 man and Cover 2 all day and make things easier on the underneath coverage. Trouble is that there’s just so much ground to cover for a single high safety. Single high has its place vs. certain opponents and certain situations, but you really need other guys in coverage who can stick with their guys downfield to play it consistently. I’m in the camp who believe that Minkah got stretched too thin covering for other deficiencies. Was it more due to teammate or scheme deficiencies? I think both played a factor.

Why does the fan base spend so much time looking in the rear view mirror?

    This.

He was unhappy being moved around so that's why he got traded in his first time in Miami.

    1) Dont confuse him with facts

    2) Anyone who doesn’t like being shown facts will immediately try to dismiss PFF in its entirety

Where was the name calling in that.
You said , your words prime example of a coaching staff not knowing how to game plan.
Make up your mind. His best years , his All Pro years were under that coaching staff, not before Tomlin, or after Tomlin.
What actually happened is your realized how stupid that sounds, and now instead of saying yeah I was wrong, you deflect by saying people are calling names. LoL

If Steelers don't learn from the past... then how are they ever going to improve?

What's stupid is jumping from "his best years being under Tomlin" to thinking "that proves Tomlin is a great coach". That's what is stupid.

If I find a bag full of money in the woods, does that make me a great financial planner?

If I pick the winning horse at the track, does that make me clairvoyant?

If I make a hole in one on the first hole does that mean I am on pace to shoot 18 for 18 holes?

Myles Garrett played all of his years thus far with the Browns, does that make the Browns a great team?

I think we won a couple games with Matt Canada as OC, does that make him a great OC?

If Cleveland lays off their entire police force, the crime rate will go down because there will be no crimes on record, does that make Cleveland a safe city?

Should I continue or are you catching on?:smiley1:

That's not what You said . You said that what happens when You play for a team that doesn't know how to game plan.
Don't change that now. Tell me again how a player has his best years in the NFL not before, or after ,but when he's playing with a HC that YOU said doesn't know how to game plan???

Explain how not being able to game plan around their players automatically made Fitzpatrick a better player as soon as he became a Steeler.

You see Fitz was exceptional for a few years. And then they changed his role. Once they did that he went in the ****ter. So ............ maybe if the coaching staff had left him where he was playing at an elite level, he would have continued to play at an elite level.

Duh Operator, what's the number for 911!

And Minkah is currently making $13.33M/year on his new contract.

We're paying Ramsey $24.1MM on his old contract.
