From everything that I’m reading from the players in camp this year and some of the changes the new staff is making a lot of what I said on here in the past see,s to be true and every body fought me on it.

    1. I said Tomlin had too much control and influence over the defense and our scheme was weak. Former and current players have come out and backed it up. Stating Tomlin was not a great X’s and O’s Guy. James Z Harrison for one. Slay said the scheme was flawed last year. Both Queen and Wilson have hinted that mlb was difficult to play under the previous scheme. The edges could freelance and the ilb’s had to basically play based off what the edges did. Wilson just came out and said he isn’t as afraid to make a mistake now. Those guys were playing hesitant under the old scheme. We neutralized their athletic ability. I think these guys will flourish under the new system.

    2. We finally moved Enron from NT to his rightful position of DT. He was too small to play a true NT. It hurt the ilb play as well as a result. They beefed up Black and he looks like he is committed. We finally have a legit NT to push the pocket and occupy multiple blockers and protect the ilb’s.

    3. We finally have two legit outside press man corners and it seems like we are going to play heavy man with two high safeties. This will support the pass rush much better. No more bend but not break and always seeking the turnover.. Turnovers are great but consistent three and outs over the course of a season are better.

    4. Finally have a coach that is structured and paying attention to metrics instead of just going off of feeling. I think a mixture of both is probably best.

I feel like this will be the first time since probably when Ben was in his prime where we will have a solid offense and a consistent run game. I think we will see the best of Friermuth, Jaylen Warren and Metcalf this year.

‘My biggest fear moving forward is outside of injuries, the oline development and lack of true safety depth in particular free safety.

You need to wait until after the season to say I told you so.

I hear you but my question is what if these changes bomb? Are they still good changes if we have a down season? Only positive is a higher draft pick and finally moving on from the AR experiment.

since when did having bigger space eaters to occupy multiple blockers to keep the ilb’s clean not work. Black is supposedly 350 lbs now. I have been wanting this for years. If it doesn’t work it’s on the player not the scheme. In addition it sounds like these guy are allowed to play more freely and up to their athletic ability. I’m not saying freelance but the ilb’s were so hamstrung under the old scheme. They essentially were played like free safeties while the edges and DL free lanced. How about everyone attacks. The proper way to play is to have gap assignments but the ilb’s under Tomlin seemingly had multiple gap assignments depending on what the DL and Edge players did. Our ilb’s are not built for stacking and shedding. They are athletic and fast. They have to be going forward and attacking their gap or dropping into coverage. They can’t be flat footed and hesitant. They win with speed and explosion not power.

when my son played ilb I taught him to beat the ball carrier to the gap. Don’t even give the olineman the chance to get to the second level. If the olineman does break free, pick a side of him and run through him. Hopefully the safety will pick the opposite side if the runner cuts back.

MT is gone, and in my opinion the Steelers have quickly moved on from his coaching style. That includes his lack of X’s and O’s, putting players in bad positions (like asking an ILB to cover wide receivers), not moving TJ around enough based on matchups, sticking a 3-technique guy at nose tackle ( Duh ) , and making few to no in-game adjustments. His incomplete buffoonery is finally gone.

The addition of Dean is huge. In my opinion, we have the best cornerback room we’ve had in the past 10 years!

We didn’t pay enough attention to metrics in the past. That seems to be changing for the better.

In addition to the players already mentioned, I see a big role for Dowdle, a bigger role for Roman Wilson compared to last year, and I view Pittman as a solid No. 2 WR.The offense will be better than last year. Bank on it.

Tomlin’s previous offensive coordinators (Canada and Smith) are out and replaced by McCarthy — a huge upgrade for us

Depth at every position simply isn’t obtainable in today’s NFL. We are thin (and unproven) at safety.

If You go right now, and burn your house down , that's a change, and proof that changes aren't always a good thing.

Black might have the size to play NT, but he needs to not play too high and get moved like he did last year.

When I played HS ball we had a DT that was 6'4" and weighed 300 lbs but stood straight up on every snap. The coach pulled him to the sideline and threatened to tie a rope from his facemask to his balls to keep him from standing up.

Obviously that’s a bad analogy. The changes we have made were with the intent of becoming better. I have been calling for these exact changes. Hopefully it produces results.

I think it's probably good to see guys playing actual football before pronouncing really anything about the current squad.

    And not just preseason.

Remember the years when Kenny and Ben had perfect preseasons (not the same year)? Then looked significantly worse in the regular season? It's because teams aren't game planning in the preason.

So I wouldn't even just them on preseason games. Nevermind practices where they aren't tackling.

I hope , and pray we are a better team. I don't give a f**k who the HC is , I want to win, but to think just because something is different makes it better is a big stretch. Again as a Steelers fan 1st, and foremost, I hope we kick a$$.
